For those retired....what do you enjoy most?

Then either forget about it, or, start up next spring, and sell out in the autumn - or a third option, start up and keep increasing your prices rather than take on new customers. Take this winter to think about it, and try the journey a couple of times in miserable, but not dangerous, weather and see how you like it.

winter storms here dump 8-12 inches at a time .. the city thinks it can plow the city core and the rest can wait till spring ( including the highways )... and "no parking" on the streets after a snow storm ....

so blowing snow, 20 - 40 below , idiot drivers on "all season tires" ... and the winter weather forecasts are about as accurate as blind person tossing hand grenades. ( sorry , no offense to blind people )

Someone made me a pretty good offer, to go to work for them yesterday, (part time).

It's my kind of thing, and I don't have to deal with the public, so I still don't have to shave everyday. :thumbsup:

I hate not having much to do in the winter anyway.

Plus, I can always just quit.

That is the great thing if you can afford to retire...even if you want to work afterwards it's a safe bet you don't actually need the income but just want to feel you can contribute to society. I recall when I bailed out of the work force, although I didn't need the income I really enjoyed the contact with others when I went to work afterwards part time as an independent contractor. People asked me sometimes why I would drive 40 miles one way to earn $30 an hour when I didn't need the money.

I told them: "Doing this makes me appreciate retirement more, I don't HAVE to be here tomorrow, but you probably do...."

I don't have to worry about going to work in snow storms , my wife and I live on 100 acres out in the country and just love it as it is just peace and quiet . We do what we want ,when we want too .

In followup... did the affordable healthcare act make early retirement possible for anyone?

One of the greatest perks I have is from my job in Alaska. I have company paid total health care for life. The only down side, its just a nuisance, they seem to change providers almost annually. Since this is a private health care plan, only for employees or retired employees, the "affordable" healthcare act has no impact on this plan. I quit the company in '82 and retired in '07 - long before this marvelous development occurred.
