That is a unique house. I've been watching it come together, interesting.

It is out of the normal expectation and takes a while to get used to. Visually, I think a stone facing on the exposed foundation walls would add some bulk at the bottom and help balance the massiveness of the logs. I think that would be a more traditional appearance also for such a cabin.

Looking forward to seeing the interior come together.

I thought about that and I think it would really look good, but I don't think I want to go to that much work when I'm planning on eventually having porches all the way around. Thanks for the input though!

Porches. Ah. You can still get the same look if you have a continuous porch support wall and face that with stone. It would be quite a project to go all the way around doing that, but doing one side, say the front/entrance side would be more doable.

Or, stone face one wall combined with a dry-stacked natural stone wall ~2'-3' tall surrounding a flag stone patio on one side.

Just some thoughts to give you more heavy lifting to do.

Progress will slow down somewhat during August, since we just bought a mobile home in Phoenix and will be moving during the next 2 or 3 weeks. This will be primarily for winter months (dec - Feb) and the log home the other nine months.

Okay, now I am confused. You're gonna live in that log house just 9 months and a trailer the other 3? Why, may I ask, are you doing this?

Okay, I was trying to keep it short and simple, but you called me on it. I retire in another year and then it will be full time home at the log home. My wife is going to work 5 more years. 200 miles is too long to commute (one way), so on the days she works, she will stay in the "winter" home. For the next year while I'm working, the trailer (winter home) will be primary home. And even after we are both retired, we will have a place in civilization for whenever we feel like coming down from paradise. Best of both worlds.
