Dishwasher install no power???

if it was a gfi circuit.. and it probably IS.. it would just pop it anyway. ground path current and all..

You are no doubt correct, but I could fix that pretty easy too. :laughing:

chances are very good that neutral wire is not a single straight run and hits a junction somewhere.. so unless he has noticed another circuit not working in the same kitchen area.. it is reasonable to presume he might find the bad neutral in a adjacent junction box. for instance.. and this is just an example. in my kitchen, 1 junction box behind the DW feeds the DW, has a line going to another box for the disposal, and a line up feeding a counter top recep, and a nother line going out to feed a recep on the exterior wall of the cabinet stack, aft of the dW. all those feedsers share 1 common box. his may have a similar setup. if so.. and al lthe other receps work.. it means the neutral fault is local.

if so.. it should be an easy pull and replace.

if the OP will update us as to what he finds, we might be able to guide him thru some easy replacement steps.

Thanks all. The wire connecting to the circuit breaker in the box were not connected. I torqued the white wire down well. Thanks folks. Cash is tight right now and I saved some because of this forum. Thanks

You may have replaced a perfectly good DW (original one) then? The first replacement DW was probably OK as well.

Easiest trouble shooting is usually with, what seems like, complete failures. It's the once in a while intermittent problems that are hardest to resolve.

You say the white wire wasn't connected ????How long did the other dish washer work B-4 it quit due to lack of power ??? How would the wire get disconnected ? This topic is odd. I'm in the process of replacing my DW as well... Told her I was getting a younger 1 .. She told me that the younger 1 probably wouldn't wash dishes. I told her I wouldn't care

I dunno, my house the dishwasher is on its own breaker and it is a home run right into the junction box on the bottom of the dishwasher. Sure simpler that way.

Maybe the old dishwasher was erroneously wired to connect the white wire to ground. Since ground eventually bonds to neutral and the breaker box, it would have worked fine (potentially scary depending on the rest of the line, but it would work). If you wired the new ones up white to white, then it suddenly exposes the problem.

I have seen wires used to carry 240, where black and white each went to a leg in the breaker panel and ground went to ground, converted to 120 by moving the white over to the neutral bar in the breaker box. If someone just disconnected the white and didn't move to neutral, it could explain the problem. Or maybe it was just never hooked up as a proper 120V circuit to begin with.

I dunno, my house the dishwasher is on its own breaker and it is a home run right into the junction box on the bottom of the dishwasher. Sure simpler that way.
