Electrical question about the direction of D/C current flow

/ Electrical question about the direction of D/C current flow #31
Ok, I'm following this tread just because it is interesting. But now my 1999 Crown Vic dome light won't go off, which seems like it might apply here. Where do I look for the problem?
Thanks

Simple.

AC goes Boing... Boing... Boing...
DC goes Zzzzzzzzzzzz

You're about as accurate as most other posts here:laughing:

Think of it as, a pipe holding a bunch of ping-pong balls,
the balls are electrons and flow from negative to positive. ( or so they say).
As one ball moves towards the positive, it leaves a "hole" for the next ball.
Then another ball takes it's place, so if you were to actually "see" this happening,,
the balls would appear to be moving "towards" the positive, and the "holes" would appear to be moving towards the "negative".
Hence, "hole" flow is towards negative and "electron" flow is towards positive.
By the way, this happens on the "surface" of the wire, not internally.

Thats a great analogy! Yeah, there's definitely more going on in a DC current than I initially thought. Thats interesting about how that happens on the surface of the wire only.

I wonder if that line is bypassing the switch somehow?

If you believe that, I've got some great Florida property to sell ya;)

That would be a place where I would start looking, a switch in the line that is. Maybe the drivers door switch for the dome light?

that's only at Radio and above frequencies ... lower frequencies use the whole cross section of the wire , or it wouldn't take the current ...

Yep, thats why when you see corroded "green" cables, on the outside, when you split the cable open,
you know it's time for new cables "or' wire".
Electrons flow around the outer cable, believe it.;)

LOL, I'm no "Master Electrician", but i do have my masters in Electronics,
Think about this for a second.....
when you pull back a connector on your tractor and one of them "fall of" due to corrosion,
you strip back the wire to reconnect it only to find the wire is all green from humidity etc,
yet, when you cut that wire in half, it's nice and copper clean on the inside,
now ask yourself, "why" didn't it conduct.;)
