What size strap wrench are you guys using? I have a 50 hour service coming up soon. I have a very large wrench and wonder if it will be enough to defeat the 800 lb gorilla that puts the filters on.

I believe the collective consensus is to use either a chain wrench (15" in my case) or to drive a long bar through the filter and use it as a lever. There are quite a few separate threads on TBN about the Kioti filters and a few people were able to use a strap wrench, but most not- me included, and I purchased two or three high quality strap wrenches for my filter project.

I would try the least destructive first- a chain wrench wrapped around the very bottom of the filter and then drive a bar through the filter later if the chain does not work. Most likely the chain wrench will work. In my TSC store's discount bins by the checkout registers, sits a two pack of large, long, stout screwdrivers on sale for ~ $8 I have been mulling over and just could not find a need for. But I will stop buy today and get a pair to keep around for use on removing filters- just one more thing in the arsenal.

I don't believe any strap wrench will work. I had no luck with them. Get a good chain wrench to start with and have the backup plan with something to drive thru the filter.

What's odd is - the problem is only with one filter. The rest were tolerable.

The 800 lb Gorilla only works on the right side hydraulic filter. He has nothing to do with the engine filter line or the hydrostatic filter on the other side. He has his job, and he does it well.:D

This is my strap wrench. 18" Rigid with a 2" web strap. Only time will tell. If it doesn't work I have a big set of Chanel Locks.

No way. I think you're going to be surprised by just how difficult this is. BUT ... I sure want to hear how it goes :)

I will reply with my results when I do the fluid change. It probably won't be enough, but I'm stubborn enough to try!

Is that strap rubberized?. If it is it might be wide enough to grab well enough so that you will not slip. I say it is iffy, but would be happy to hear about how it goes.
