Thanks. Roundup will kill it but I have to stay on top of it. I guess those little burrs bust open and it spreads then another dose of round up.

I knew a old Mexican man in Arivaca AZ

He told me it was good for asthma he called it Toloache.

I thought he was just a ignorant old fool

But then I did a search just now and found this.

Medicinal Plants of the SW: Datura stramonium

I guess I am the ignorant one

Also known as Thornapple or Moonflower. I have 3 of them in my yard; they produce some pretty blooms early in the morning. The seeds are toxic, and as I recall, the leaves and stems may be also. They come back every year; I just cut them down in the fall. We consider them to be an interesting ornamental.

And locoweed for hallucinogenic properties (Datura stramonium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Steve

From the article:

"There is a high risk of fatal overdose amongst uninformed users, and many hospitalizations occur amongst recreational users who ingest the plant for its psychoactive effects."

It was on the news here a couple of years ago; some kid swallowed a bunch of seeds and ended up in the emergency room.

Yes, as a past EMT, we hauled a few of them to the ER.

I just read the article. Apparently it will cure colds moles and sore a holes. When I saw the name loco weed I had to laugh. Most of the weed is growing in a horse paddock. I remember seeing a movie one time where Burt Lancasters horse ate some and he had to ride it out.

So is the best treatment round up or dig and remove. I thought about burning them but I that might make the seed spread. After they have been sprayed the bigger ones linger for awhile. This stuff was probably brought in to my place in a load of hay. It has been spreading for 2 or 3 years.
