There have been many posts about issues with 3PT Hitch issues with the 5xx3 and 50x5E series tractors. I have a 2008 JD 5303 4WD unit. I don't think the 5303 was made in a 4WD model very long and believe it be almost identical to the 5065E. The only difference I have seen is that one is reported at 64 engine HP vs 65 engine HP.
I have noticed when running with an implement raised in 3 PT that I can hear a hissing noise. Bumping the rock shaft lever down makes it quit temporarily. When it occurs again I can raise it and bump down and it stops again. I suspect it may do this when working with a implement when the stop limit is set, but due to higher RPMs and focus on work being done it ones unnoticed. I have heard of heat occurring to the point of melting fuel tanks. I haven't had that issue but have seen it hot enough in the rear area to generate steam when washing off.
I really like the size, power and function of this unit versus the 2WD 5105 I came from. It suits and serves my needs well.
Question is, if this is a common problem what is the cause and what is the fix? If left uncorrected is there a long term maintenance risk occurring?
