Can somebody tell me what made these marks?

Was the hood higher than the log, same height, or log was higher? What was hit first? I'm thinking about something flying off a speeding, turning, flatbed truck or tailgate and hitting them. Heavy screen, safety tread plate, manhole cover, etc.

I was hoping that somebody would look at it and say "I've seen that before, & this is what caused it".
Velociraptor, 100% positive. Notice how the teeth line up perfectly with the grooves in the bark an on the hood.

I am thinking the grapple as well, and the person swung his grapple over the car a little too low when he was loading wood.

Edit: the marks on the car are not as even or as close together, are they?

They are about the same distance apart. (1/4) That pic was taken closer, so they look farther apart.

Not that you'd have time, but can you drive around the neighborhood and see if someone has some of the logs? Or look for tracks?

I know when some properties near me were being cleared, a few of the neighbors helped themselves to some logs, but they were so obvious it was humorous. I'm talking skid marks on the road, muddy tire tracks leading to their homes, a busted strap with log left on side of the road, etc....

I do tree work and firewood cutting myself, and can do it without leaving nary a trace. But it seems the typical log/firewood thief isn't so skilled or properly equipped. So I suspect it might be easy to track them down if they are nearby. They'd probably stick out like a sore thumb.

I think I'm gonna ask the guy that owns the building if he knows who took the wood.. Shouldn't be too hard to track down... Most people wouldn't bother picking up poplar.

In my neck of the woods the likely suspect would be a drug addict. The marks resemble those of a large roach clip.

I don't think they are from the same thing. The marks on the hood are too wide and not as parallel and evenly spaced as the marks in the wood.

I also wonder why she noticed the marks in the wood? Was the pile close to her car?
