Put $500 scrape in truck. Pay it or file claim?

when your agent says 'pay it and dont file a claim' - Id listen to him..

We have a $1000 ded on the cars, but even then I may pay out of pocket to keep from being dropped/rates increased if it was under $1500 or so

We are unanimous, pay it. The insurance company will get that $250 back x 10.

I'll go a different direction.

Dont pay it. But dont file it either. Its a scrape, and its a truck.

But then again, Dont know what make and model or what you use it for. But I dont worry about minor things on my vehicles. Cause I know there will likely be more. And knowing my luck, if I were to pay to fix it, I would hit a deer or get in an accident that would do damage right where I just ponied up to fix anyway.

This right here. Our truck is a farm truck. We try to keep it nice, but dings and dents are going to happen. It's more about function over form. I'd rather keep it running well than looking pretty.

I pulled a real STUPID a few months ago. I was backing up my truck, with the driver door open <-STUPID, and clipped a tree. The door, needless to say, was toast. This was a $1400 lesson in common sense - lol.

I did turn this one in to insurance. Surprisingly, they did not raise my rates. I have since added a 2015 Silverado 2500 and got amazingly low rates. Just can't say enough good things about Esurance. And, no, I don't work for them.

I'm rather curious what a $500 dent looks like... I thought opening their clipboard these days was an automatic 4 figures.
As others have said, I would pay it and up my deductible to recover the money... or up my deductible and live with the dent.

(I hit a pothole last winter in my company truck, my snowsled bounced and folded the tailgate. +- $2000.:( )

That is the new Insurance company scam....You buy insurance and then don't dare file a claim...It's true...they will raise your rates or cancel you....We all might just as well raise our deductibles to the highest amount we could afford to pay or not be able to pay....and save money that way....I hate insurance companies...then when you do have a large claim...they do all they can do to get out of paying....My 2 cents.

I like that idea of raising deductibles. I'm going to do that.

Yeah, it's a truck and I have another truck with a couple of dents. This one just bothers me.

Regarding stupid, 25 years ago when I was cutting hay, I was in the middle of a 50 acre field I just baled. Bald as a cueball. I had the tractor, baler with thrower and four hay wagons hooked in a train. It must have been 60 ft long.

Anyway, in the middle of this field my wife managed to drive into my tractor. Grrrr...

Never said dent. It's just a six inch scrape that possibly very slightly dented the metal. The door has to be repainted and the brand name on the side has to be replaced so it is what it is.

Yeah, even the smallest dent/paint damage is gonna cost you a few hundred, no question.

Yes, it's the principle of the thing. But the reality is, if you file a claim for every door ding and scratch your rates are gonna go through the roof.

Raise the deductible, drop collision coverage on vehicles worth less than your point of financial pain in case of a total loss.
