Extreme Rotary Brush Cutter for mesquite

I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions on an extreme rotary brush cutter for mesquite. I currently have a Open Front Industrial Brush Cutter running on a Bobcat T650 on low flow. I have had the fly wheel fall off last month because the welds were awful. Yesterday the bearing housing hex bolts broke off. I called for support and got another sales pitch about how I will love the machine when I fix it again. Mean while I have some customer waiting. I am getting jobs in the Mcallen Texas area and there is a lot of mesquite usually four to five inch in size. I am looking for advice and suggestions. Thanks for any input.

You need a Brown, if your tractor has the HP to run it.

That looks awesome. Any experience with mesquite. I am looking for something for my bobcat. Thank for the suggestion I always like looking at new stuff.

A Davco will work good for you. I didn't see any skid steer brown tree cutters. In the field, a brown does a good job with a big enough tractor but the end product is absolutely awful based on the 10 acres my neighbor cleared of small pines.
I was there, too, looking for one of the blades that sheared off the brown, sliced through a tire, and dinged up a tree 100 ft away! Ouch. Can happen on all types of mowers but my experience running a Davco style is they are built heavy duty and will easily knock down what you are describing. Where they show their limitations, compared to a mulcher, is the end product and ability to get low to the ground. You can tilt a Davco and slice into a stump but you are then exposing yourself to debris being thrown at the cab. Without lexan, that's too dangerous.

I operated a Davco on up to 9" -10" trees. It was only rated at 4" but I had to work it and see what it could do. On high flow (10 years ago), I only had 30 gpm and it was a beast. Never tried it on mesquite but persimmon is similar and can be very hard and it did fine though it does sling a lot of material.

Did you ever look at a low flow mulcher? There are older Tushhogg mowers rated at 30 gpm like the 650 puts out and I think you can find other brands that will match your hydraulic output but it will be on the low side for mulching.

No mesquite here, but the Bradco Extreme Duty Ground Shark is amazing. It's quite similar to the Davco, even uses the same blades but thicker (5/8" vs 3/4").

Thanks Yellow, I have will look into the Davco and see if there is a dealer down here. The clients I have had have been happy with the larger mulch that was left behind. I did a few pile that were left behind by others. As far as low flow mulchers, I tested a Brown bear 283 but the visibility was poor and didn't run well on my machine. I still want to see a few more and get a dealer close by. The only one that offered a dealer was Cimaf. I still want to see one in person before spending that much money for one.

Thanks lumber, I have been looking at that one as well even came up on a video of one in some small mesquite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ny_CNeOYgB0 . My bobcat dealer is a dealer for them so that is a plus.

My theory is a rotary mower with offset blades (edge is lower than the mounting point) aren't as heavy duty as straight blades, like the Davco or Bradco.


Here's the Bradco blade with a size 14 boot on it. The puck (3.5" diameter) with the three holes is what the blade pivots on, held by three 3/4" grade 8 bolts. The blade carrier weighs 600lbs, the mower is 2klbs. They suggest 30-45gpm at up to 4ksi.
