A half gallon of gas in 30 gallons of diesel isn't a big deal. We all would rather have clean straight diesel #2 but this should not have been a train wreck. I really suspect there water or something else added to the mix.

I agree on the water. Maybe the "gel" I saw floating around was water. It was sinking to the bottom.

I'm pretty sure that there are two on my 5085M, and I think it's the same set-up on the E. If I get a chance, I'll try to look. (Read: if I can remember, lol)
Looked through my manual. Seems to just mention the one filter.

The shape changing clear blobs in your diesel have got to be water. #2 diesel should be good to about 10F before the wax starts to precipitate out and clog fuel filters. I would drain and then refill with good fuel and also add some Howe's or similar fuel treatment. Fuel injection pumps (and injectors) really don't like water too much - causes real problems.

If the wax developed over the winter would it dissipate once the weather warmed? Should I add another fuel treatment in addition to the 911 I've already added or is that sufficient?

Suit yourself, but If me, I'd be removing all traces of bad fuel and mixed fuel ASAP (including draining and cleaning the fuel tank), and start with fresh, new fuel without additives.
That is after you consult with your Deere dealer and get the filters changed out.

Give yourself as much break as possible here. Just sayin... if it were me. ;)

I'm not sure what cleaning the fuel tank would involve. Is there a product for that?

Don't know if there's any difference between you E and my M, but the M has two filters, both on the right side of the engine. Primary is "mid-engine," next to the oil filter. Secondary (says "Final") is to the rear of the engine.

Just looked, and both tractors have the PowerTech 4045 engine, so should be the same filter set-up.

Well that's odd. Of course I'm at home and the tractor's out at the land. I'm planning on going out to work on it after work tomorrow. Do you mind taking a pic of your tractor and attaching it here?
