Bull.

Read it again. Maximum Gross Combination Weight

He's got you there, but in all fairness, that is the first time I've ever seen that on that tag. Maybe it's more common on medium duty trucks?

yes and GCVW is different than GCVWR. that's all i have been trying to say.

i underlined the wrong letter

What do you say R stands for in this case? Rating. That is the rating plate. GCVW=GCWR. They are the same thing

no they are not. a rating is what the max that an axle, tire, truck can weigh according to the manufacturer the weight is what it ACTUALLY weighs.

you car/truck/suv has a GVWR and a weight they are not necessarily the same.

OK, so you are saying that the data plate I posted is not a rating?

I'm done. You're wak

The GCWR is listed on my truck

They must have pretty good intuition to know the weight of the trailer you are going to pull with the truck. What happens if you pull 2 different trailers? The gcw would be different?

i owe rock knocker an apology. the medium duty trucks do have a GCVW weight. you are right. and i am a stubborn ***

however there is no posted GCVWR that i have ever seen in a light duty truck. for the OP towing an excavator with a 3500 (light duty truck) my guess is DOT will be pulling him over. from my experience DOT does not care or perhaps does not know and cannot enforce? a GCVWR. They do check axle ratings and tire ratings. with a light duty truck you can be over your GCVWR and still be under your axle and tire ratings.

there is a scale at the end of the road where i work. if i feel that i am close (or just need to know my weight) i go, pay my $2 and get my weights. having done that many times, i know what most trailer i pull are and what most of the tractors and trucks weigh.

i hope i did a better job of trying to explain why I feel that the GCVWR is not all that important. in my experience it is not a rating that the DOT enforces.

My reply was to the fact that you were claiming that the truck posted gcvw, and was to point out that they could in no way post that, and that is must be gcvwr.

It's news to me also that medium duty trucks post gcvwr on their placard. As for light duty trucks, I get what you are saying about enforcement... I have wondered that as well.

Good for you Terry, it takes a good man to admit when he is wrong, and then apologize. I respect you for that, and I am sure rock knocker does too.
