Gm 3500 towing

As for the medium-duty trucks, none of ours list a GCWR on the data tag (Chevy C60, GMC C5500, IH 4700). That said, they are all cab chassis models setup for dump bodies. I'm wondering if the aforementioned tag came off a truck that was intended for use as a road tractor? (Just thinking out loud). Regardless, most of the time the GCWR on a medium-duty truck is equal to or greater than the GVWR, which is a lot compared to a pickup.

That brings me to the basis of this discussion, and I personally think it is crazy to be towing 20,000lbs of anything behind a pickup. Once you step up to a medium-duty truck you'll see how unsafe and unproductive towing that much with a light duty truck really is. Regardless of what the mfg's are 'rating' trucks at nowadays, they are still a light duty truck and can't handle the rigors of heavy use like that for very long. Did I mention it's also unsafe....

x2  I switched from a pickup to a medium duty for that exact reason. I should have gotten more hp(only 275 or 300) and I sure do miss 4wd in the winter time(Throwing chains isn't fun). But the white knuckle loads I used to haul, I don't even notice anymore. My main concern now is not overloading the trailer. The truck never even enters into the decision. I actually have to remind myself to check the mirrors to see if the trailer is still back there. The truck rides smoother loaded so its almost relaxing. I still need to figure out something better for the winter time, but nothing is time critical so I'm not in any big hurry.

I do have to admit, I was rather impressed with the pics of the Ford 450 someone posted awhile ago. That square tube axle looked awesome!
