So, I rolled 50 hours on my 5035HST and in the process in changing the engine and hydro oil. I say "in process" because even though I was finally able to break the two engine oil drain plugs loose, I can't get the dang oil filter off. Some bright individual thought it a good idea to run a hard line right up next to the oil filter. Can't get an oil filter wrench on it (cap type or band type).

Easy to work on my ***.

Seems to me I had to put a little 'woof' in a hardline back underneath by the sump screen to help get it in/out... but not other hard line problems ' that I can remember '... Filters are usually tightened like they have a 500 pound ape doing it at the factory. But anyone that ever worked on a Dodge Cummins knows the drill with the tight filters.... Good luck, Jerry. :)

I ran to Wallyworld and they had this long plier type filter wrench, slipped a lot, but was able to get it off...only to find the oil filter my dealer gave me is the Hydrostatic filter, not engine oil filter :banghead:

Any chance you know an aftermarket filter that'll fit this thing? Dealer is closed and tractor is sitting in middle of driveway sans oil.

Nope, got all my filters shipped in from Texas, think they came right from Mahindra drop shipped from an online dealer. Worst comes to worst, you can put the old filter back into it and fill it with two gallons of Dino oil... Run it another 50 hours then do it again with a new filter. I changed mine at 50 and 100 hours... just because it was mine [well, mine and Mahindra Finance... ] Sorry....

OR.... just take the old filter out Monday, screw a new one on, and top off the oil if necessary. You should be good to go... old filter is not going to pass any crud into the new oil.

Yeah, I put the old one back on. I'm just going to mail order my filters and stuff from now on, this dealer has been a bit difficult to deal with. Talk to them on the phone and give very specific information and they can't seem to get it right. I'll just change the engine oil again at 100 hours.

Never got around to doing the hydro fluid and filters, it was getting too late in the day and needed to use the tractor.

I saw somewhere (in here I think) someone said there were 2 or 3 screen filters on the HST that isn't shown in the manual that should be pulled and cleaned. Know anything about that?

I haven't gotten to do my 50 hr duties yet as I only have 25 on it, but I have been in a very dusty environment lately so I removed and cleaned my air filter.

lo and behold, there is a tubular screen filter inside the cylindrical paper air filter. I haven't looked for the other 'hidden' filters yet.

When you get ready to do your hyd change... Look for 4 [ if I remember correctly ] of those 1/2" NPT plugs with the magnets in them on the hyd trans unit. You should take all of them out and clean the magnets. You only need to take the one they show in the manual to drain, but I'd clean all them magnets just for the heck of it. Seem to me two of them are hiding above the front drive shaft shield, and I took that out to get at them better. I found a lot of crud in the sump screen, but that is what it is for. Should stay fairly clean after the first oil change... I just did my front axle a few weeks ago and it took every drop of 10 quarts... First I though it would not take it all, but ran it some... then it would take the last 4 qts or so... Plan on taking a long time to refill the trans, too... The dip stick hole will only take a little at a time... :)

Bought a brand new Dodge with a Cummins back in 2006. The ape was at least 500 lbs. You are soooo right....I think they applied slow dry contact cement then torqued to 800 ft lbs.

Yeah, looking at that tiny fill port for the hydro, I think I'm going to invest in a hand pump, or maybe try my little rotary drill pump. Having to hold a 5 gallon can or pour into a smaller container, pour into tractor, repeat doesn't sound like fun.

I better get it done soon. My son and his friends have talked me into carving out a motocross track in the field. Mowed out the shape Sunday and got some of the starting area ripped and stripped of grass. Slightly wet clay is not fun to scrape and work.
