Read the manuals, checked the fluids, no help.

I did discover that if I run the engine at faster than 1200 rpms, it doesn't do it....well duh!

Correct, the manual for my 2615 say to never operate at under 1500 rpm.

Not really knowing anything about this subject BUT why would you operate the BH under 2000 rpms anyway ? What would you be digging with the low pressure level ?

Please, I am not criticizing, just a newbie and wondering ?

Scrambler,

I cant speak for OP, but i know a lot of guys operate at a lower RPM to slow down the movements of the BH, thus making it less "Snappy"

yup. makes it less snappy and has about all the power I've needed so far. I'm running it at about 2000 now just so I don't have to listen to the noise. Ive traded BH noise for engine noise....but I'm getting better with the BH 'snappiness". I'd rather neither noise, but it's only a small matter in the scheme of things. :)

I too ran at the lower speed when I first got my SC2450 but found that the better digging at 2000 (+) took away a lot of the "not digging properly problems".

I understand what you are saying but learn to control the swing and higher rpms results in a better BH experience.

One more thing I forgot to mention... when using lower rpms, the engine has the possibility of seating (breaking in) the ring too low and when you decide to bring up the rpms you may crack a ring.

After breaking period at prescribed rpms run the rpms up to a decent level, 2000 - 2500, to seat the ring high.

Just my opinion from a long history of automotive engines.

Scrambler,

I personally do not have a backhoe on my machine.... but, I do operate at sub 2k rpm when using my fel and (non pto) 3pt implements. I cannot speak for anyone's tractor except my own, but i have power to spare, even at 1700rpm. And running it at the lower RPM also decreases wear and tear as well as my fuel consumption.

The engine developers the required horse power at a given rpm.
Each implement requires a certain rpm to operate properly.
Properly operating implements equal proper horse power.

So yes, use the rpm necessary to get the performance you need but using a FEL is not the same as the BH as far as oil pressure/rpms needed.

Please, let me state all of this is based on my opinions, operator with more experience than me know better than I but to a point higher rpm related to better performance.
