FEL Float Mode

   / FEL Float Mode #21
Took me a little while to appreciate the float mode but I use it more and more. leveling, smoothing mainly. It's a handy function for sure. Play with it!

Float is a handy feature for sure but on my BXs both a 2007 BX24 and my new BX25D I can put it into float mode with the bucket in any position and it never "slams" to the ground...always just "floats" to the ground nice and soft! Not sure if mine are different or there's a problem with them but that's the way they both worked from day one to present.

Just learned about another "hidden" feature my little tractor has.

Thanks to the op for the question, and all others for the advice given!

...If I see the ground is not quite level and find float rides the "hill's", here's what i do...
You can also add extra weight in the bucket (gravel, rocks or dirt) so it smooths out the "hills" better.

Had dug up a bunch of my leach lines on one of my rental property septic systems last week. Leach lines are loaded with gravel on the bottom. I filled holes back in Saturday and did rough covering. Attached RatchetRake yesterday and leveled out the dug up areas and filtered out most of the bigger gravel using the float function of the FEL "most of the time" in forward and reverse. It is one of the very useful functions of the FEL. It will still dig in sometimes going forward but a bump on the lever will raise it a bit and keep going.
The combination of float and RatchetRake are fantastic for leveling ground for seeding. Get a high spot, lock the bucket and knock it down and then hit back to float and fine level.
Mine to on my current B2620 "floats" down but not sure that some of the other models I've owned didn't maybe "drop" when going into float.

Yeah I kinda learned this one by accident... but now it is in the repertoire.

If you need more weight why not put downpressure on it?

I often use it when back dragging with the lid of my rake grapple. Rakes the ground nicely. Note that it only floats the boom, not the curl.
