The one thing good they do is stop the solicitation of the CC offers.

Credit cards are one thing, those are easy to get the charges reversed. It's the identity theft that will make your life miserable.

You really don't need those services, they are a waste of money. My credit union allows you to check your credit once a month for free and I monitor my bank accounts DAILY. There's not a day that goes by that I'm not on my phone or computer and take a look at my bank records to see what's going on.
Agreed. Haven't needed it since the last person to try stealing mine ended up buried out in an unmarked grave in the desert. Word gets around. (Just kidding.) We have charge limits and monitoring on both my wife and my accounts. We also don't do many personal financial transactions on-line, and only on reputable sites.

Identity theft was what I was really concerned about. Much more difficult and costly to fix than a credit card.

What I want to hear is that our politicians should enact "hang 'em high on a long rope" punishment for those who commit these crimes. Then, have a czar or whatever with a force big enough to track them down and arrest them. Also, just unhook the internet to any address that is used to commit fraud. Might as well disconnect almost ALL of Africa and many eastern block countries too.

Some joker opened up a few cards in my name. Luckily a bank caught it. It took me a while to clean it all up but what I ended up doing in the end was placing fraud alerts on all 3 credit agencies and then I froze all my record at all 3 agencies. It doesn't cost much to freeze your credit accounts so no new accounts can be opened. I do this instead of throwing away money to lifelock. Just google credit freeze, it really is the best option besides no using credit at all. Good luck with that.

I've had my credit cards re-issued 2X because of unauthorized use. The "offender" will first make a very small purchase to determine if the info will work - then comes the major purchases. Both time I was notified by the credit card company - - - " Mr ***** did you really purchase $750 worth of clothing in Pittsburg, PA"??? I check my credit card & checking accounts daily via the internet. On one of the two occasions I found out where the unauthorized use came from - - needless to say, I will never do business with that company again. And I know, its probably not the company, but one individual working at that company. But why take the chance.
