I'm looking for a good small used baler to use with a 45 hp pto. Any suggestions on what works well with a small tractor and will last a long time.

45hp so we have a 14t baler that works great the 42 horse kubota tractor (38 at pto) the baler pumps out bales nicely how ever the only issue is the kubota is pushed around by the 14t but if u have a ford or Jd no problem! The baler is a john Deere 14t probably 50years old it sure is built to last

The JD 14 T was a very good small baler another good choice would be a New Holland 268 or 271. Myself I would go with the New Holland over the JD the New Holland is superior.

NH is superior to JD, that's debatable. The 24T here has chugged out 10's of thousands of bales. Both brands are good but I wouldn't personally say one is superior over the other.

The JD 24T is the bigger brother of the 14T, if memory serves me rite and I used to rake in front of one for years at 18 MPH with the 24T running at 15 MPH behind a AC D19.So I agree that they are good but up against a NH in heavy hay, meaning 150 bales per acre as in ALFAFTA hay in a river bottom then it's a different story. I have a 320 NH Behind a 7710 Ford SERIES II with 120Hp at the shaft. At one time put over 15,000 Bales per year. And at the most only missed one bale every 2500 bales for 10 years. So for me it's been a good baler.

I think I'll call you on raking at 18 mph and baling at 15 mph .. I don't think so.

Man your fields are a lot smoother than mine if you can go that FAST plus there's no way a 24T can bale at 15 MPH because you'd be stopping too often to put in shear bolts.

We have a 268 with a belt kicker and it has been very reliable for us. It runs along happily behind our L3830 (~38 HP at the engine, 35HP at the PTO)

If you had said 8 MPH and 5 MPH it would be believable.

And 8 mph is still fast
