... as the current JP8 apparently does not list minimum Cetane or Lubricity requirements.

Yeah ... because it's just "too important" to leave to guess work and marketing claims ... but not too important to leave to plain old general stupidity ...

It's a wonder we still exist as a nation ... SMH ...

I'm aware that many of you guys who use the additives are very happy with them but I have a hard time with the lack of objective data in comparative trials.

LOL ...

Well ... ya could - if you had a diesel vehicle that you drove any amount - just dump something like Power Service (or another reputable additive) in that you could directly observe improved your mileage and your engine's performance ...

But that's just what them dumb ol' truckers probably do ...

Probably much better to have comparative trials ... you know: where someone else (rather than you) is making the observations for you ...

Nah, the placebo effect is way too powerful.

In God we trust, all others must show data.

Need a double blind placebo controlled trial to convince me! Old habits die hard.

For my kubota all I do is put about a cup of diesel 911 into the tank every time we fill it up and I know that the fuel will not gel on us. I also just checked the fuel filters on the tractor and they are the original filters that came on the tractor and we have had the tractor for about a year and a half and the fuel filters are just fine. The tractor is also running like it was the day that we bought it. If there is something that is going on inside the engine that doesn't effect the sound of the engine then I don't know if it is effecting the tractor at all besides the fact that the fuel isn't gelling on us.

I should add that I understand the lubricity data and fully accept the anti gelling properties. What I cannot accept without independent data are the engine longevity and MPG claims.

Lubricity enhancement would seem good unless the additive has a negative impact on some other engine components. No way to tell except with long term controlled trials.

Tell you what, try this, start up the old dog (Kioti) with a half tank, while its running add a few oz's of PS, and listen. You tell us what happened. We'll wait. HS.

Duh.................JP8 and Jet A-1 is kerosene............. #1 diesel is de-waxed #2 diesel. Kerosene does not have wax in it. Why do some folk fuss and fight with #2 diesel and snake oil additives in the dead of winter instead of using winter diesel in the winter ?

We can't get #1 where we live. We can get winter blend but all it is is #2 cut with Kerosene or #1. The real issue is when or where you top off. A week to early and you are in trouble.

Also, my bulk tank at home is a perfect example. I don't want winter blend in it so $10 worth of Howse and #2 diesel has worked for my 300 gallon setup.

I run into issues at the gas station, not at home. The Bio crap they push here is a winter nightmare. I remember a few years ago on my street of 13 houses 4 trucks were gelled up.

Well, 1) the old dog runs fine without additives and 2) I don't know that sounding different would correlate with prolonged engine life or better "MPG".

Do you know what your Beemer manual recommends? Any reason to second guess the engineers from Stuttgart? They claim to have studied the U.S. diesel fuel market carefully.

The manual for my car recommends no additives and no bio above B5. However my own feeling is that recommendation stems from BMW not controlling the additives or who puts them into the tank, of which they would be on the receiving end of damage caused by incompetence, through the warranty. HS.

In the engineering world we don't call it anecdotal evidence, we call it "anecdotal waste of my time" because we can't do a flippin thing with it...
