Easy solution....secure 1500 lbs of cargo (concrete, steel, fuel tank, etc) in the bed of the truck and shazam....mass restored.

Mmmm Yeah that would restore the mass . Tom does have a point about being rated empty.

These trucks were driven like they were stolen and idled all day long by probably 100 different drivers a day. My 3.5 Ecoboost gets 18.3 mpg since new, 46,000 miles now. It will do low 20's on the highway. My guess is this 2.7 will be 25 around town and 28 highway. Chris
I'm predicting 18 city and 26 highway for the 4x2 model. Until ford brings an 8 or 10 speed to the table, I can't see them reaching the upper 20s. I came across this article that was posted on a ford truck forum showing that some journalists have been getting between 17 and 23.5 mpg with a Crew Cab. 2015 Ford F-150 2.7 EcoBoost Four-Door Crew Cab Is Capable Of 23.5 MPG

They rate them based on empty

True but as long as the truck has a great enough GCWR and GVWR then my point is valid.

If they trimmed off 700 lbs and kept the GVWR and the GCWR the same as previous year, one could throw in an addition 700 lbs of payload and tow the same amount.

The F150 brakes are good but not what they need to be. My experience is documented in this thread which has a lot of pertinent information. Also google "F150 rotor problems". When I bought the truck (new) the last lady I spoke with, who did the final writeup, asked me, "You didn't get the extended warranty?" I said nope. She said, "well that's ok but you need to know the brake rotors will need replacing fairly often and that is a big ticket item." I thought that was a sales gambit, but turns out it was the straight truth. I was fortunate, the dealership here in Sacramento replaced the front brakes under warranty at just under 36k miles.

Turns out your first impression was correct. She is trying to sell you a policy. Unless $60 for a new rotor is considered a "big ticket item". Lol

40,000 miles on mine and they are still smooth as glass. According to my computer that includes about 10,000 miles towing trailers with brakes. I wish it would sense all trailers hitched up but it only notices when they have brakes.

My 2012 Ecoboost has 46,000 miles. Over 10,000 miles are towing 9,500# or more and I just rotated my tires and inspected the brakes at 45,000 miles. My guess is they will go another 20,000 miles without issue.

Maybe these days rotor replacement is routine maintenance, I dunno.

I always considered it routine maintenance at around 100,000 miles. Rarely can rotors be turned on a lathe in today's world. As cheap as they are to purchase, it is often just easier to buy new ones rather than turning them and having to run back in and pick them up. The new replacements at autozone or the like are lifetime warranty so just swap them out every 75,000 miles or so.

Since when are they lifetime on the rotors? They always used to be 2yrs... pads were lifetime though.

The truck doesn't stop the trailer by itself...I can pull 12k with my 1/2 ton, as long as the trailer brakes work I'm good.
