BTW Doc, do you not have a life somewhere other than arguing with good people on any and every controversial thread on TBN?

More people hang themselves than shoot themselves. Maybe we should license rope buying

You should check facts:

three words:
Consider the source(s)...

It must really suck to be so gullible...!

My references used actual study results. Facts don't require a belief in them to be true.

The sources referenced research by universities and published in reputable journals (The American Journal of Public Health) and also recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics. A quote from one of the sources "Study after study has been conducted on the health risks associated with guns in the home. One of the latest was a meta-review published in 2011 by David Hemenway, director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center. He examined all the scientific literature to date on the health risks and benefits of gun ownership.

What he found was sobering, to say the least."

Here is another analysis and a short quote:
Guns in the Home and Risk of a Violent Death in the Home: Findings from a National Study

Although these studies are useful in demonstrating an association between access to firearms and rates of homicide and suicide at the aggregate level, it is not possible with this methodology to adequately assess whether access to a gun increases the risk of a violent death at the individual level.

To address these limitations, previous researchers have used case-control study methodology to evaluate the relation between gun ownership and risk of a violent death in the home. For example, Kellermann et al. (13, 14) examined the relation between gun ownership and injury outcomes. After they controlled for a number of potentially confounding factors, the presence of a gun in the home was associated with a nearly fivefold risk of suicide (adjusted odds ratio = 4.8) (13) and an almost threefold risk of homicide (adjusted odds ratio = 2.7) (14). Other case-control studies have also found an increased risk of suicide for those with firearms in the home, with relative risks ranging from 2.1 to 4.4 (15?9)

Believe the NRA or Oxford Journals. Go after the message, not the messenger.

No response concerning my earlier question:

Does anyone feel that a gang of 20 young people (10 - 16 years old) or a group of schizophrenic, recently discharged mental patients have a Constitutional right to carry any weapon they desire or do you agree that right is not absolute?

Who supports an age limit? ...not in Constitution
Should a person with violent history who is under an order of protection have the right to carry an AR-15 and 7 handguns around?

There is more than one Constitutional Right and each has been balanced by our courts.

The courts have supported a limited right from the start as with any other right.

No response concerning my earlier question:
It's not a question, it's a rhetorical device to allow you to reiterate your position. So no one is biting.

But since you do not seem aware of current law, mentally ill people are federally "prohibited persons" who cannot own firearms. Anyone who has been institutionalized for mental problems falls under the definition.

However, in some states (like Massachusetts) private mental institutions are not required to report because those institutions have argued it stigmatizes those seeking help and might inhibit their willingness to seek treatment. So a boy like Adam Lanza can be " mainstreamed" by his wealthy parents as long as he isn't sent to a public facility.

How does the NRA "block" the CDC from doing anything?...please don't say lobbying...it does not hold water...
As for statistical citations...just do some googling...I admit not all the data is from this year...most of the CDC stats are in PDF form but what I cited is factual...
The CDC spent $10 million to study defensive use and related issues. I already posted the link and the numbers pages ago.

"Most indices of crime and gun violence are getting better, not worse. Overall crime rates have declined in the past decade, and violent crimes, including homicides specifically, have declined in the past 5 years, the report notes. Between 2005 and 2010, the percentage of firearm-related violent victimizations remained generally stable. Meanwhile, firearm-related death rates for youth ages 15 to 19 declined from 1994 to 2009. Accidents are down, too: unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century. The number of unintentional deaths due to firearm-related incidents accounted for less than 1 percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010."

As former Clinton spokesman George Stephanopoulos said, "Let me make one small vote for the NRA. They're good citizens. They call their congressmen. They write. They vote. They contribute. And they get what they want over time."
+1. the NRA is Americans. HS

IT has said many times that he supports that we all keep our rights to our guns. He has been very clear on that. We as responsible gun owners need to help figure how we can keep our rights and prevent needless death. It is a tough one.
You seem to want to connect the right to bear arms or just guns with needless deaths. That's the problem, they are not connected. It's not a tough one it's easy, they are not related. HS.

None of those school shooters had conceal carry permits, which is what this thread is about.

What legislation would you pass to remedy those school shootings? Let's hear it.

Make parents more complicit in and responsible for crimes committed by their minor children. It seems to be often the case that guns, or other weapons, are obtained at home. If a parent allows such weapons to be available without in-person supervision to hormone riddled, not fully mentally mature youths who often make poor judgments in many areas, they are creating a risk factor that could be lowered.

There is no one piece of legislation that would cure violence but we don't seem to have at least tried some that could nibble at the issue from several angles.

Currently the US has one of the higher incarceration rates in the world and our violent crime rates have subsided in parallel with that trend. Perhaps we have taken many folks off the streets that fit a profile for violent crime high risk potential.

Just saw a news report on Washington DC's process for applying for a LCF. You must prove you are in "special danger." You must take a 16 hour gun safety course from an approved instructor: only problem is there is no course yet approved and no instructors.

There is a hearing scheduled the 15th to decide whether DC is in contempt of the court ruling. They were given 90 days last summer and still don't have a plan.

BS HS. If they are not related then why is the NRA's brain-dead solution to school gun deaths the weaponizing and hardening of targets? It is a defacto argument that people have the right to bear arms and use them on other people--whether that be the perpetrator or victim.
