I agree, a good idea but not needed. If you are worried about it, run a full synthetic diesel oil, flows much better during start up.

I had a pre-lube pump on a 86 F250 with an aftermarket turbo. I installed the pre-lube pump after adding the turbo. It was very handy for me as the truck would sit for months (sometimes 6 months at a time) without use. Using the pre-lube allowed sufficient oil to lube the turbo before start up.

The pre-lube pump saved my truck engine when the engine oil pump pickup tube cracked and sucked air in. I was able to switch the pre-libe pump on to get me home safely (long story). So for me, it proved to be invaluable and saved me a bunch of money.

On the tractor, I don't think it would be necessary - I don't have one on my tractor and don't see the need.

Once you've broken the engine in by using conventional oil for a few times,and at least 100hrs,consider switching to Schaeffer's x9000, 5w40 with 15- 20 percent bestline HD diesel engine treatment..its the best lubrication I've ever used and my oil samples come back with the lowest wear metals I've ever had.

Not using a block heater and synthetic oil in the winter will cause more wear than what a pre-oiler will save.

Good point, although I think switching to a full synthetic year round is even better. That's what I plan to when I change the oil my L4330. I don't even think I have any non-syn oil anymore, I've changed everything over to synthetic.

I use Shell Rotella T-6 5W-40 for everything except my Stihl/Husky chainsaws.
