OK, it popped up again so I thought I would "explore" it some. Using a variety of "tools", I determined that it is a NETWORK not a hot spot. Hmmm...

If the spies can spoof a cell tower--as in the link I posted, I bet they can spoof a network too.

Well, very few cell towers, networks or hot spots out my way. As a matter of fact, on a really good day I can get maybe two bars on my cell phone.

HOWEVER - Every now and then( 2x or 3x/year) there will be this jet black helicopter fly around the property. It has absolutely no visible(looked at it thru field glasses) markings and the windows are dark tinted. Its one of those cute two passenger French kind - with the tail rotor built right into the tail. None of the city, county or state LEO's have such a unit. I even called the FAA and they have no knowledge of a unit like this or at least, they will admit no knowledge. FAA says an unmarked aircraft is not legal - so there must be markings somewhere on this little jobbie. Hard to tell what this copter is actually doing - but last time I saw it - I was out on the property and waved at it. My acknowledgement of its presence must have upset someone because it took off like a bat out of hades.

Who knows? Did you wave a gun at it? Years ago a light blue private helicopter was hovering just above the trees close in front of our house. I waved at him too, like get the heck out of here. Made me mad enough to call the Sheriff's Dept. They said mine was not the only complaint and they knew who it was, and there would be a lecture. End of story.

The cell tower spoof is creating a virtual tower electronically to do surveillance on cell traffic. You won't see a tower. No reason they couldn't do the same for wireless networks.

Here is an article with more explanation than the ACLU link.

Pipelines and powerlines are often patrolled by helicopter. Any near you?

Also county, state, and federal sometimes patrol looking for illegal "farms." These are more likely to circle and explore an area than the first group.

No - no guns involved. I've seen the chopper used to check/patrol the power lines and this little black thing isn't one of them. A person would have to have camera in hand to get a pic - the thing is quick and does not stay long in any one place.
