Currently have a Kubota L-3800 that I used on 10 acres of land. However that land is being sold and I'm moving to a house with 2 acres of lawn.

Is the L-3800 simply too much machine as a yard tractor? What if I got a nice finishing mower attachment instead of the heavy duty mower attachment?

Any inputs welcome.

Thanks.

Chuck

L3800 is a lot of tractor for two acres, however you already own it, which is a huge advantage. If you have other potential tasks such as moving snow, I'd be tempted to hold onto it. If not, I'd sell it now and buy something more appropriate for the place.

If it turns out to be too much (here in Texas no snow) what would be the recommendation for mowing and towing smaller loads on 2 acres?

Thanks!

Really depends what obstacles you need to mow around. Smaller garden tractor mowers usually do better than 3 point mowers, which do not follow ground contours as well. My advice if you have other chores that the L3800 could do, keep it. And find a Kubota G3200/G4200/G5200/G6200 garden tractor. They are amazing mowers. :)

Are the G-series a good way to go or do I need something like the T-series?

Thanks.

I do not know about the newer G's. The T's are AWD when the front wheels are straight, and 2WD when they are turned, at least I think they are.

I could see a BX being a good compromise if you still had tractor stuff to do -- they are great mowers. Or maybe a B. An L3800 would be clumsy for mowing smaller lawn areas, especially around trees/etc or wherever you need a tight turning radius.

I'm on 4 acres out in the country with an L3200, but I have a smaller Deere tractor for mowing my lawn (was my only tractor at my previous home in town). The Deere is 14 years old and seems like it will last forever.

I previously had a B2920 and it was fine for the most part, but moving firewood was tedious with the smaller bucket, and I'd occasionally run into other loads I couldn't lift. The L is bigger than I need most of the time, but I have never felt it was too small like I did with the B on occasion.

So I'd say it's not so much the acreage, but what you need to do on the acreage that might determine if you need to keep the L and add a mower, or simply trade/sell the L for something smaller like a B or BX.

If at all possible, I would keep the L-3800 and add what you need to mow. If you find out later you do not use the L-3800, then sell it.

I would look at a commercial 60" ztr for my mowing needs.

Rail Dawg, I think s219 is right on the money. Your situation sounds exactly like what a BX or a small B is made for.
