BX25D 3PH Splitter Problem

   / BX25D 3PH Splitter Problem #21
Thanks for the update. You should be all set with a power-beyond valve. You will have three lines then instead of two, with the power-beyond line feeding the FEL and the tank line will need to be plugged into the tank return port just below the 3PH top link holder and to the left(when facing your BX from the rear). The tank return line is only in use when you are using the splitter and will send fluid from the non-pressurized side of the cylinder back to the tank. When the splitter is not in use, pressure will flow through the valve and out the power-beyond line which should be designed for the max pressure that the valve is designed for. Look forward to your update.

If you get the valve with the power beyond port, then you will have to add an additional hydraulic line for your splitter. The additional line is the drain/tank/return line that provides path for low pressure oil back to the transmission housing. The loader valve will have one and you may be able to add a fitting to tee into that line. It would be much less money just to get new seals for the valve you have. Put a clip or tag on the splitter hose that you move to FEL lever when you attach the splitter to remind you that it is connected.

The BX25 already has the 3 quick connects on the back of the tractor since the backhoe uses them for its power beyond capabilities. I hope I am understanding you correctly. I don't I believe I'll just run the 3 hoses from the splitter valve to the 3 connections on the tractor. They are labeled in the manual as to which one is in and which is out and PB. Let me know if you think I'm misunderstanding something.

I have the same thing on my splitter but because I added another valve for a second operation simple thing is just run the ram in the direction it wants to go to the end from that point on everything else works normal

Yes, you will or should run one hose to each of the 3 BH connections. The connection with the hose that's about a foot long is the pressure in from your pump and would hook up to the splitter valve pressure in port. The power beyond port on the splitter valve should hook up to the quick connect on the right side of your top link bracket (to send pressure downstream to the FEL and 3PH), and the Tank return line on the splitter valve should connect to the QC on the left side of the top link bracket. This one is the tank return line for the backhoe valve, so you can just use that for the tank return on the splitter valve. No need to "T" into another tank return line somewhere else on the tractor.

So, when you're not using the splitter, pressure flows through the pressure in and out the power beyond ports on the valve (like it's not even there - haha), but when you are activating the ram, the oil pushed out of the non-pressurized side of the ram will flow out of the tank return line at low pressure, which is all it's spec'd for and what's causing you current issues when it gets pressurized.

Hope this helps.

Here's a pic of my old 3PH splitter.

Edit: Oops, doesn't show the hook ups, sorry. I couldn't see that looking at the thumbnail. Plus, that splitter didn't have a power beyond valve anyway now that I think about it.

Great, thanks CHDinCT. That makes it very clear. I think that was what I was going to do, but it's nice to hear it from someone who knows more abou this than I do. I should be getting parts delivered next week hopefully. I'll make sure to post pics and an update once I get the whole thing together.

It sounds like you have the proper direction now. As I stated earlier, I am not familiar with the BX25. I presume that when the backhoe and splitter are off, you connect two lines together (in & PB) to power the loader and 3 point lift. The third connection, out, must be the drain line for the backhoe. So I agree with CHDinCT's assessment for connecting all three lines to your new splitter valve. Let us know how things go with the new valve.

OK, quick update. We lost power over the long Thanksgiving weekend and I spent time fixing a blown furnace transformer and buying a new fridge (grrrr) instead of playing on the tractor. I got all the parts I needed and assembled the new splitter valve yesterday and gave it a quick test. It seems to work well and I tested the pressure in the line and it looks like I got it right. I'll have to take some pictures once I get the valve solidly mounted (right now it's just sitting on top of the cylinder because I couldn't mount it the way the original one was).

I'm pretty happy with the new functionality (auto split and auto return). I'll try to get it mounted and take some pics soon. Thanks to all for the help and pointers. I now understand that PowerBeyond is not only something nice to have, but it is required when you have multiple hydraulic cylinders attached in series.
