Carhartt insulated bib overalls

You oughta try and find ones that fit when you're 5'4".:muttering: Even Carhartt long sleeve shirts that fit my chest have arm length to fit an ape. Usually I have to cut the leg length and sew up a hem on coverall or bibs....or just let them drag in the mud/snow.:muttering:

Every time I find a long sleeve shirt to fit my chest the sleeves only come 2/3 of the way from my elbow to my wrist.

My carhartts zip all the way up each leg as well as from crotch to top in front. Insulation is full too,(some stop at waist with insulation)

Five feet nine inches, 218 lbs. Same problem. As practical and warm as Carharts are, I've yet to find an off the shelf pair that really fit.
Finally bit the bullet and took myself and brown duck to local Taylor shop and after convincing the nice little oriental lady at the shop that my outfit cost as much as a pair of business dress slacks had them tailored to fit my portly physique.
I think the charge was twenty bucks and I've been a happy camper ever since.

Funny... I can't find clothes anywhere that fit right except rural king. They have more of a selection than a big and tall store. I'm 6'4" 280. Pant size is like 40 to 38 waist inseam 38-36. I try a lot of pairs on before I find the right ones. Anywhere else your either tall and thin or tall really wide hard to find in-between at other stores. Only rural king has size 14 socks that actually are 14 also. BTW most of my coworkers get their bibs there too. Bibs are the only way to go!

It struck me that the carhartts they had there was.. Tall.. I'm 6ft 230lbs....if i was 6'3"..i think they would have been fine.

I'm going to check TSC next couple days. Base upon what I'm reading here i may get the ones i tried on and just shortening the straps.

Since moving to Illinois from Texas, 3 years ago, I've been layering for the cold weather. The pair of insulated coveralls I had....a son-in-law took them over never to be seen again. You didn't wear them much in Texas. I don't want to go through this coming winter without them....but wanted to switch to overalls instead of coveralls. A lot easier to get on. Was in Rural King today, shopping for these. Carhartt was the only brand they had. What I found was the overalls seemed to long, from the waist to the shoulders. I shortened the suspenders to as short as they would go, and still couldn't get them to snug up. Anyone else run into this problem? I want a zipper to the waist...some brands don't do that....are there other brands that do? got a TSC store, but further away and in the wrong direction that we typically shop, but may have to pay them a visit.

Have you checked for any other work wear stores? A lot of places that sell boots and shoes also sell working mans clothes too. Not sure about your area in Illinois but here in Indiana we have a place that sells work wear its kinda a good ol' boys store named Dale Hardy's. Bibs, coats, boots, gloves... You name it they have it and in every size you could think of. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go there!

I second the notion to try local farm/feed type stores that have a selection of Carhartt wears. I have an older pair of bib overalls, that although I'm on the short side fit me ok for the purpose, that I got locally. Also got recently a Carhartt long sleeve T-shirt for much less than the TSC price. And they had a nice Carhartt jacket that TSC did not have, and a better value than what TSC wanted for their equivalent.

Check out Berne Apparel. They are comparable to Carhart and less $$$$.

same like issues as everyone else.

it would be nice, to goto some bigger store, let some person measure me up, and just order what would fit me, from some central location, and have them shipped to me for a good fit. without all the fuss... to expect brick/mortar stores to carry all sizes and in different fittings, is a bit insane. for both store owners, manufacture, and us...

some stuff just does not shrink correctly after a few washing either :/

I'm the opposite, 6' 1.5", with a barely 32" inseam so that I'm pretty much all torso and arm, those overall that hang too low on mosta you all are almost too short for me, and while a tall size would be better there, it'll have too long an inseam..

BTW, try Wallyworld-ours has Schmitt's and they are pretty well made, I like mine anyways...

...and if you don't mind shopping online, there's the Sportsmans Guide, I bought a pair of Walls insulated overalls from them and I like them a lot too.
YMMV,
Thomas

Nice thing about Carhart is that if you get a pair of lined bibs you are not going to freeze or sweat to death during your work day. Wash at the end of the season and you get 5 years out of them. Very few work clothes last like their jackets and bibs. If your outdoors in the winter they are the best and outlast everything people get you at Christmas.
