Well I goofed up trying to get as much lifting height out of the whole thing, the 3 pt. only lowers below grade only a few inches. Not much digging in there to hold the tractor while winching. Just today I added some bucket teeth to the bottom. I had some worn tooth covers laying around and they fit over 1.5" solid sq. stock that I also had. This will add about 4" to dig in with and also help stabilize the log butt ends if I'm carrying them that way. I also made a provision for a drawbar on the blade - raised to the flat position. That Mag drill is the way to go for bigger holes. That's a 1.25" hole in .75 stock for the drawbar, about 2 minutes!

Here's the "sweeps" or limb risers that complete the "woods package", and a few pics of a tree on the winch. I made provisions for the
risers when I built the canopy. I had to wiggle them around the exhaust pipe while allowing the hood to open.

Very nice.

Impressive! Looks great although I would be worried about all that weight hanging far behind the tractor. While your 3pt may be rated at 7000#, I believe that is for a load 24" behind. The center of weight on those longs is far beyond 24". It looks like you have flat land there which will help a lot compared to the steep terrain where our trees grow.

Yes Ken, on any hilly ground, I would hitch them to the butt plate directly at the lift arm ends. That birch is about as big of a tree that I have on my place and it did not give me the slightest hint that the front end was getting "light" at all. This did surprise me also. Having not used a tractor with a winch before, I built in plenty of "hitching" options much closer in to the tractor, but hitched as shown allows the log end to be about 7' in the air and that particular log was about 3/4 mile away from where I needed it to be. This saves rutting my "roads" up on the property with just the top dragging along. I'm still learning the capacities and best methods.
