Chrysler actually made a smaller slant six also, something like a 185 ci but not sure.

Let's not forget about the 413 and 426 engines. They were made as both a Max Wedge and a Street Wedge version.

I worked on a Drag Line for a guy about 10 years ago. It was built in the 40's. It had a inline 8 cylinder Chrysler engine with a side mount single barrel carb. It looked like a tractor engine, similar to a 8N, ect.

Wow... ten pages of old motor talk... its great! But not one mention of the Olds Rocket motors. I had a 350 Rocket in my '72 Olds Cutlass converible, auto trans with 2.72 (airplane) gears, so not much of a rocket but decent fuel mileage. Sweet cruising car... sure miss it. Never got to pilot a 455 Rocket powered olds, have heard they were sweet...

I have had good luck with the chevy/detriot 6.2L diesel motors. Sluggish in stock form, but add a turbo and they do quite well. Ran my '84 mud truck as a work truck (dually utility bed) for a while, did fine, even towing. But still pale in comparison to my current 7.3 powerstrokes, double the power and run forever.

I had a 1970 Olds 88 4-door sedan with a 350 but I don't think it was called a rocket. And I remember Chrysler 413 engines in inboard/outboard boats.

My first vehicle was a 1952 Willys 4WD wagon with a 161ci flathead six. Then an uncle gave me a 1956 version that had a 226ci flathead six. ("Super Hurricane"). They were both really slow. But very practical in the desert, would idle at about 450rpm and walk over rocky mining roads. Had to replace the rear main bearing oil seal in both engines, it was a fiber cord. Otherwise bulletproof.

My dad had the truck model, I can't recall the year but I do know it had one of the 4 bangers. It could go anywhere but not very fast for sure. I recall hearing when he drove it to town to sell it, he had to drive to the side of the road much of the way.

In 1957, I was hired as a temporary, part time mail carrier in Plano, TX, which at that time was a small farming community. And my first job was delivering parcel post. The post office had a single vehicle, leased from the owner of the local Whites Auto store. It was an old Willys Jeep panel wagon with no driver's door, no muffler, and no key (had a toggle switch instead). Hard to believe in this day and age. But I guess every dog and every human in town recognized the sound of that thing coming.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the early "JEEP" vehicles with the Dana 33 differentials had real steep gearing; 4:88's come to mind

Id have to check but Dana 27 in the front and Dana 44 with 2 pc axles were common... the splines on the rears like to strip where the hub bolted to the end of the axle.

Never heard of a Dana 33, that's new to me.

Agree with diesel on the spicer models. Believe the pickups had 5.12 gears wagons 4.88. Splined hubs a weak point continued way into the 60's.
