The problem wasn't so much the disk, I see those all the time but that it was towed at 30-40MPH down the road behind a 3/4 ton pickup.

Wow, if that disc went a tire or so off the road it could flip the truck over at that speed.

Maybe it's just me, but large farm implements getting towed down the road is pretty common in my area and it doesn't seem to be much of a problem.

As with many things, it isn't so much

As with many things, it isn't necessarily the item being towed as the skill and knowledge of the driver. Truth be known, as sometime we have all probably pulled something that in retrospect could/should have been done differently. Many posts look outrageous to us (especially those from outside the U.S.), but someone who does it on a routine basis obviously has the skills to do it. Definitely an interesting thread though.

Farm implements generally don't bother me (I have pulled a few down the road myself). Even the load itself wouldn't have been a problem had it been pulled behind a larger vehicle (say a DRW 1 ton or larger) and had it been pulled slower, but he was rolling right along, it was swaying back and forth and all it needed was a wheel to drop off the road, or him needing to stop quick for him to end up in a jacknifed mess... A 5700# truck pulling a unbraked 12k-14k load at 30-40mph makes me want to get out of the way in a hurry...

When I pull something wide it is almost always on the back roads. When I see someone coming I pull completely off the road and I've never had a problem. I do add some barbells for tongue weight so things don't fishtail.
