The times can be changed by a service tech. He can plug in a laptop and tweak them

Granted that some/many customers shouldn't be let near a programming panel, but I can see that being a pain. In remote areas, getting somebody to show up for just a service call can be a problem - you know the business economics well... Lots of guys will install.......

I'm a ways off from buying an auto-start system, but when I do go looking at them, I'll be checking for ambient temperature sensors.... it would be less than child's play to design that for extended test runs a low :cold: temp.

for $266.00 you can get slip on heater for oil filter and battery heater. They plug into the 2 yellow power lines from the house panel. 10 mininstall. Self regulating 240 volt heaters. That, and the onboard battery maintainer.... Once a week or once a month cycling is fine

or... In 2 minutes you can reset the auto exercise cycle betwen weekly, biweekly or monthly timer using the onboard electronic touch pad control.

Those heaters are a good option, up north. What wattages are they typically ? Nice being thermostatically controlled.

Just had a power outage this afternoon. Power went off at 3.30pm and I waited for an hour with nothing happening. Started the back up generator and put it on line around 4.30pm. Still running and if I don't get power back I will be shutting it down at around 9.30pm.
Temperature here has moderated quite a bit - it is now +8C and windy, raining - just over a week ago it was around -25C and snow 18" deep.
I am very glad we have the generator - life could be pretty miserable without it.

A little unplanned exercise for your diesel Jim..... I'm thinking you have a decent sized fuel tank on that, it should keep you comfortable for quite a while.

Hi Dave,

Yes, the fuel tank is a household 250 gallon heating oil tank (in like new condition) sitting on blocks off the ground, inside a purposely built shed - next to the generator shed. I also have clear plastic hose arrangement on the outside of the tank, that shows me how much diesel I actually have in the tank. With the red colouring of the diesel fuel against a white back round makes for easy reading.

Cheers
