Kubota L3540HSTC, M7060HDC-12, ZD331-72, Bobcat E42
I am very close to pulling the trigger on a Kubota L4760 but thought let me take a look at John Deere, call the local dealership today and he quotes me a price for a 4044R which is about $3500 less than the Kubota. He tells me to come on by the dealership to take a look at it. I drive 15 miles to dealership to find out he doesn't have any on his lot, he then tells me they have a 4066R on their other lot across town and it's the same machine except for the engine. I drive there and the guy behind the parts counter asks if he can help. I tell him David sent me here to look at the 4066R, he says I will help you when I finish with this customer. I asked where the tractor is and he tells outside in the front.

So I go outside, find the tractor, kick the tires while waiting and parts guy shows up, no key for tractor and no offer to go and get the key. JD is off my list.

Really didn't care for all the plastic or fiberglass body parts

Man I hate to hear that. It drives me nuts how crappy a dealer can make an experience. I don't know how some of them survive with the level of customer service. I've gone into a mahindra dealer twice and both times the salesman is asleep on his desk and both times he has on a sleeveless shirt. Apparently he is the owners son and runs the location near me. I'm not an uppity type but please show a small amount of professionalism if your expecting me to drop 50k

Both the JD & Kubota dealerships in my area are fantastic. They meet you in the parking lot as you get out of your car and will show and demo anything on the lot. There are two other brand dealerships that never seem to care if you are there or not. I really do not understand why there is such a difference but I would not do business with them.

Is this dealership your only option to get a look at the JD lineup? To play 'devil's advocate' here a bit... 'Cause I can't read minds any better than the parts guy, did you ask if it was OK to fire the machine up?

He's a parts guy. He don't know up from what you and 'David' talked about. I realize that folk's can be clueless and indifferent to customers interests... But, it can help if there's a little bit of communication before assuming the guys not gonna help you.

You make a fair point, but they already had one foot in the grave after I drive 15 miles per the original salesman telling me to come look at the one on his lot that did not exist. In this case the customer did all the leg work and David from the dealership did not even call the other store to organize my viewing of the tractor.

Any customer wanting to drop this kind of money at my business will get 100% attention so that I do not miss the sale.

Good points all. Forgot about the "phantom" 4044R! And 'David' showed some pretty poor 'follow-up' on your conversation.

I'm gonna have to guess that he did not recognize that you were as serious about the tractor as you actually were..
