How is it reacting with the lever? Easy to push with it in or out? Without oil it would push easily with rod in or out as the rod opens a bypass in the oil route so it can be pushed. 90% sure it works that way. Be sure to let us know if I am correct, don't remember that being asked before.

Update! I took it all back apart. Took my time. And got it back together the right way this time. Everything seems ok. I put it back on the tractor and....nothing. Jacked it back up. Went through the bleeding process, and boom. There's she went. Climbed right up the hill.

So, now, I have a follow up question. They sent me 3 liters of the synthetic oil. How much was supposed to fit into the T40 tranny? I got 2.33 liters into the thing. Since the machine needed bled, is it possible that it needs more oil in there? If I have to take it off and put more in, I'd rather do that now then mow a bunch and regret it. Thanks!

And thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way! I have a running tractor again!!

Yes, since it needed bleeding, the fluid would have replaced some air in the system. It will probably hold a bit more fluid. Their "top off" procedure states 2.2L if just draining/refilling through the cap. Since you added a tiny bit more but it also needed bleeding, you may still be within that "20-25mm reserve" they state.

If it were me, I would still take it off to check and top up to the upper reserve measurement just for safety.

I have a JD L120 with about 1200+ hours of mowing/spraying 5 acres of pasture on it. (Yes 1200+ hrs) I don't remember how long ago I bought it from HD. When they first came out maybe? I live in FLA so it gets used year round. A year + or so back, with the help of this site, I did the oil change in itransaxel, with great results. NOW it is moaning/groaning loosing power again. So I took a different path.. :)

I just bought a BAD BOY Elete CZT 60 inch 30hp zero turn. It was a new left over 2013 model so I got a good buy on it. Now my problem is what do I do with the pile of J.D. junk in my barn??

Maybe one rainy day I will do the oil change again but from a lot reading this post, I am thinking it needs the rebuild but for now I will use it to pull sprayer for the hour it will work untill it won't go I guess.

On the sunny side, if you paid 1200 for it, it cost you a dollar per hour to use. Not bad. I can mow my 1 acre yard in an hour.

It does sound like you need a rebuild.

One more thing geezer, your's might have lasted the longest (without reading the whole thread again). 1200 hours is a long time for something like that.

Hay Kyle it took me about an hour to mow mine with my JD also. Now it takes about 20min. :D I didn't read the whole post either :confused2: but it is the most hours I have seen on any forum. I wasn't very easy on it either. I haven't changed the oil in a cpl of years. It seeps oil from every orifice, so I figure I have a constant oil change & just add some now & then. I have changed 2 of the 3 original blade spindles, & one of those twice. :confused3: & a couple of blade belts too.

I was looking for some info on another transmission and found this link to new K46 transaxles for $219. I have bought from these people in the past and they are good to work with, have been around for a long time
