Absentee neighbors new street lights

It really gets down to any local ordinances regarding light pollution. Do any apply in your situation?

Not really applicable to your situation since the property owner does not care, but a cell town maybe 3-4 miles from us got a new light. It was unreal how bright that light was and that we would even notice it at all. But when we had low clouds that light would just light up the sky for miles around. It was amazing how much light that light was putting out. We were miles away so it was not much of an impact on us but the light was in town and it really did affect lots of people. The issue was fixed when the tower either put in a lower wattage bulb or turned down the power. The light is needed since we have lot flying aircraft at all hours. Last night a copter flew over at very low altitude at 3:30 in the morning! We hear and see Blackhawks and Apaches all of the time but I don't know what flew over last night but it was big, loud and I could hear it minutes out which is unusual. :shocked: I had to get up an put wood in the stove anyway but I wish I had gotten up quicker to try to see what the copter.

One evening we had two Osprey's fly over in trail just above the tree tops. They went right over the house! Really cool! :laughing::laughing::laughing:

That sounds like a prudent course of action. The arbovitae sound good as well. Good fences, make good neighbors.

I planted arborvitae between my neighbor. I use a telescope and their lights destroy that.

I would get the red rider after that light. It worked for me as a kid.

No need to trespass and if you keep your mouth shut the light goes out,
the absentee owner isn't there to notice and all is well.

As far as the up and coming politician. I would talk to his boss if possible. If not
I would get the word out that this guy has chosen the wrong career path and that
he needs everyone's help getting a new opportunity.

I always think about the amount of electric usage ... I know one is probably minimal ... but how many hundreds of thousands of them are there?

It is hunting camp?

They use it for hunting?

Then mess up their hunting by getting a hunting permit yourself (so you can lawfully shoot during hunting season) and establishing a firing range abutting their hunt every day they hunt. When they come to discuss that you're wrecking their hunt, you can explain, they're wrecking your night's sleep and offer a deal: you'll stop shooting, and call the police if you see or hear bad things happening on their property if they turn off their yard light or at least put it on a timer so it isn't on all night long.

Since you have made yourself known and are now suspect no matter what occurs. It's time for nice polite letters to the editor, to the new goof's boss and the local chapter of save the world eco freaks. Raise the issue of light pollution, disturbing wild life circadian rhythm and waste of utility power.
You can have a field day beating this guy at his own game using the rules and having absolutely zero they can charge you with.

Some areas now require outdoor lights that only shine down and can't be seen from the sides within a certain angle. Check your lighting regulations.

Find out where Michael lives and get yourself one of those zillion foot candle spot lights and pay him a visit some night. As long as you're not on his property he should have no problem with any "light trespassing" issues right?

X2 about getting a hold of his boss and if no results there go one higher. Have them meet you out there as late as possible so they can see the light pollution.
