I'm learning with the drawknife- ne to me. The longer blade works well for a sliding pull cut that slices. You can flip it over for a deeper cut. I just make cane for myself. I run them over with the tractor, try to lever something and snap it, bust the handle off- so I make replacements. They are not great looking, bowlegged with the natural curve of the wood, a little strange and my wife barely tolerates them! But they are just right! They are rugged as I lean heavily on them- that is why I don't make a walking stick- not enough support.
When it comes to wood hand tools- I am a novice- but it is absorbing, and time can pass quickly.

I find it's cheaper to buy the combo tool kits when they go on sale at HD or Lowes. Last year I bought an 18V kit with flashlight, sawzall, drill and two batteries for $10 less than the two batteries would have cost separately. It's ridiculous.
But now typically those are the smaller batteries with a much smaller runtime. Incidentally I went back and looked at my receipt, they also gave me 20% off the batteries. So I got two of the 9096s for $79.

That is true, though it became a bit of a no-loss tradeoff when LiIon batteries started showing up on power tools (roughly, anything bought in the last 3-4 years or so). You can get what used to be high capacity in the smaller standard small packs (which I like for the compactness and weight since I often have these tools in a holster on my belt). The new high capacity LiIons are the size of the old standard packs.

I guess it kind of depends on your work habits. I like having 2 chargers and 6 batteries to spread around (typically, 2-3 batteries will be in use at a time on the job site).
