Seems to me that welding up your own table would be good practice as well as a fun project, or maybe I am simply a cheapskate.
I for one collect each and every old bedsprings that folks toss for recycle day, you can't imagine all the good projects that they have created.
Examples: tablesaw base, planer and shaper base, welding table, even used them in lieu of T bars.
Also made a few sawhorses with them.
A buddy has made more than a few ATV trailers with bed springs and discarded oil tanks.

Are you talking about the steel frame that supports the box spring?

I have the HF version, works well as long as you don't try to do to much with it. I use mine all the time either as a welding table or a work bench.

Good buy in my opinion.

The $180 it would cost to get that table (Canadian dollar sukcs right now) would easily cover the cost of building yourself something similar similar sized. I've got $1000 into my 4x8 table and half that was the 1/2" top

CDN Farm Boy have you posted pics of your table anywhere?? I'd like to see it. Wanting to build something similar and always looking for ideas. Thanks in advance.

Got mine at a consignment auction for 3$. Look before you leap!

I just took some scrap and welded up a couple of metal saw-horse shape stands that can either work as stands or lay some scrap material across them for a quick table or long rails for big projects. I also welded together another table with a flat metal top (also from scrap about 2'x4' top) for most small projects that has a small open shelf underneath to store small scrap pieces I think may have a future use. I'm not lucky enough to have a shop, so all my work is performed outside. Nothing pretty, but it works for me.

That's the plan eventually! Prob 4x4 or 4x5 with 5/8 plate.

Funds are not the issue; time is with a young family.

Ok great thanks!

I'm working in 19x20 now and will be moving across the yard in the spring into 22x28 once I get the new slab poured and don't find mine any too big

Yeah well I have the ATV in there right now, walk behind snow blower and many tools.

I also use the shop to change fluids on the Kubota and car/truck.

So you see as a dedicated welding shop I could go bigger with the table but I don't have that luxury.

I'm not complaining just a fact!

Eric, I'm pretty sure you'll get a lot of use out of those - just a word of caution though, I wouldn't recommend wasting your money on HF's excuse for F-style welding clamps - I bought a couple when they were on sale just to try out, ended up using 'em for temporary paper towel holders

Instead, for not a lot more money the Stronghand clamps (1200 pound rated) have worked really well for me - they come with pipe adapter and a "step over" spacer, can be reversed to use as a spreader, and cost about HALF what a plain Wilton costs - I have a couple of the Wiltons, and only use 'em when I run out of the Stronghand ones.

Here's where I get mine, the 8" 1200 pound ones are often on sale for around $20 -

Here's one project where I needed nearly every clamp I had - if you click the "+" sign, the two overpriced Wilton's are in the upper left corner (with the copper plated lead screws)

Yep, good angle stock. Slat springs also are a good source, at least the 2 long side pieces and the shorter ends.
The steel they use is somewhat brittle and trick to weld but sure handy. I probably have a doz or so standing up in the shop corner.

I have a spare taking up space in my garage. I think I will start keeping an eye out in the metal recycle bin. I have seen them tossed in there before but never thought to retrieve them for some stupid reason. I wonder what kind of steel it is? I will play around with it some.
