How much does it cost per hour to run a tractor.

KiwiBro

It is brand new and I only have about a half hour of run time on it. So for that half hour it's been great, no problems at all. LOL I did push a little dirt with it and it has plenty of power. If you don't need the extra power (73 HP) I would say the 6620 will do everything you need.
Thanks. There is neither a 66 nor 73 HP option here, just 76HP. After looking around for too long now it seems to me NZ and Aussie might be test markets for certain ideas and configurations. There are transmissions on our models I can't find up there, heck, there are models I can't find up there and our lack of regulatory need for T4 doesn't account for the differences in engine set-ups or engines either.

Take LS for example. We've had their own factory built MTron engines in the NZ/Aus LS and Case-IH tractors for some time but similar models in USA do not, yet.

What I have yet to establish though, is whether the RX7620 we get down here is basically the same as your 20 series tractor, without the EGR/DPF ( is the same base engine though) and with just the fuel delivery and/or timing changed to hit 76HP, and a different 24-speed transmission. I've yet to establish who is making the loader but that's the main disappointment thus far - it doesn't, on paper at least, have as good a rating as I would like from a 76HP tractor. I suspect that's because 76HP is nearing the upper limits of what that 20-series chassis/mounts/front end were designed for. I'll know more after they bring the tractor out for me to play on.

Thats my point for most users. But it the tractor is used for business purposes, you NEED to be worried about it.

Agreed, and most of us are actually worried about it or we wouldn't waste our time reading this thread. I believe for most users that don't clock over 100 hours a year the cost is wayyyyyy higher than being admitted. The guys who put hundreds of hours per year on a machine generating income might come in low on the cost. The rest, are higher than they will admit.

For me, I will not know the cost until I sell/trade/scrap my current tractors. Then a mathematical estimate can be made. Not before.

Got a query here....does the depreciation figures you quote cover ONLY the tractor itself, or all the attachments and implements you need to use it properly. Without those, a tractor cannot really perform any duties except tow things around. And while we are on the subject, suppose you buy a fancy CUT with several major attachements...FEL, BH, RB, MMM, Snowblower, PHD and others...it costs you 40 grand and then instead of using it, you just store it in a climate controlled garage for the next 20 years. How do you factor in depreciation for what is a brand new and unused package? Does it lose value, or gain value?

The above may be an inane question, but I recall back in '74 when I had a chance to buy a loaded '72 StingRay ragtop with less than 2,000 miles for $5500....how much would that car be worth today had I purchased it and placed it into storage?

Tractor only. Assumes sale by one private party to another private party. If sold to a dealer, for resale by the dealer, proceeds to owner will be about 25% reduced.

In my case, implements come and go regularly. Anything that sits, goes.

Since I sold my relatively light Kubota B3300SU I am gradually buying heavier implements to pull behind heavy Kubota B3560.

How much would forty years humidity controlled storage + insurance have cost for the Corvette?

This thread made me curious and after some quick calculators as I have kept good records of maintenance, implements and equipment since 1991; however the gas I had to estimate (at last years high prices for 23 years) since I never wrote that down and the hours also because until this last tractor I did not have an hour gauge, but knew about how much each week I mowed and just doubled it for the tractor (never owned a farm tractor until 1998) since it seldom runs but every other weekend or less except on a few big projects. Most most of my stuff was bought used (well used) so I never had a big ticket item like a $20k machine. Anyway my estimate came out at about $7.46 per hour worked and that will go down about 11% or so if/when I sell my extra tractor this spring and down about another 1% at the end of 2015 if I have no major problems that cost me money other than fuel. My stuff is so old already, I did not try to figure in any depreciation into this just cost to this point in time.

So I figure if I hired me and my tractor or mower out to do a job for someone, I'd double the cost ($7.50) and charge $15 for the machine, plus double that for my wages per hour and would feel $30 an hour would be a fair money maker to estimate a job by, for me.

Commercial tractor insurance is high. If you work for others twenty hours per week it might by $12 per hour AFTER a $1,000 deductible. I know you would not do paid work off your own property without liability insurance.

It was fun getting an idea what all this stuff has cost me over the years to use. You are right to warn about getting insurance though. I don't plan to hire out as this is not a business for me, but part hobby, part time saver & part money saver on DIY projects, but you never know when a neighbor might ask you to plow a little garden, mow or scrape a driveway, so it gave me an idea what it is worth to me to help out. I don't have a trailer, so if I can't drive the machine within a short distant, it'll never leave home. Insurance is good to have especially if you are a business or do this every week or so on the side, but my home owners if enough for me, because the old girl won't leave the hacienda unless just doing a small favor for a neighbor and that would be rare. I doubt I'd ask for more than fuel money unless it took me several hours to complete anyway. If I had to buy insurance too, I'd have to charge enough to cover that too. On the plus side, my cheap neighbors would never ask a second time for my help:shocked:

Umm, just did this less then a month ago for my small 2 acre property. (Wanted more than) Needed a Kubota BX25D but first needed a new shed 12x20 Amish built, then needed a new 8x14 Sure Trac dump trailer to pull the tractor, so, I've dropped $38K of cash this month with accessories and I now have less than 5 hours on the BX, so about $7,500 per hour (LOL) , but worth every penny! . Your mileage may vary.....

whatever it costs, it's cheaper than a couple of horses.

I guess my intent of asking the question is when I am bidding a job I have to know how much is my cost. I do logging sometimes which there is not much money in so I have to keep a close eye on my cost to see if it is even worth doing. You are right...when I do my own work I just sit back and enjoy doing it. Guess I am still hooked on my business background the fun of figuring out the cost and accounting work.

For logging I will go with $15 per hour and it takes an hour to skid a cord out to the landing in a short haul so $15 a cord to skid the logs if I don't brake anything.
