Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not but here goes.

I have a large (90 gal) diesel tank on the back of my truck for fueling my tractor and other equipment. I have a 12 volt transfer pump I use for that.

What I want to do is hook up a 12 volt pump to the tank to a switch in the cab and plumb it to my truck's fuel tank for more fuel capacity.

I have purchased an adapter to t into the filler neck and a pickup tube for the six tank but I am having a hard time finding an appropriate pump. A lot I see are only rated for gasoline and why I try to search for diesel pumps all I get are the transfer type pumps with the gas pump type handle.

If you have the 12 volt transfer pump on the tank, why not just use that pump and the nozzle to fill up your truck's primary tank if you need to? You still have the extra 90 gallons, it would just take a few minutes of pump time to fill your truck's tank up manually.

Unless I'm missing something here, adding a pump, switch, and a line to get the fuel from the transfer tank to the truck tank seems complicated for the the purpose.

Just my 2c.

Your not missing anything and that is what I currently do. I just would like to not have to stop to do it. It would be nice to be able to just flip a switch in the cab to fill up while driving.

That is actually the exact kit I have to tap into the filler neck but I don't want to use a gravity feed. Maybe they work but I have heard horror stories of them overflowing and I don't want 90 gallons of diesel on the ground in my driveway some morning. I want a pump that I can turn on and off.

Another reason I want to do this is there are some issues / concerns with the fuel filters not being adequate on these trucks and even very small amounts of water causing thousands of dollars of damage. My thoughts were to only put fuel in the aux tank and then pump it out through a good filter / water separator into the main tank as a safety measure.

Any small inline pump that is rated for gas will handle diesel fuel with no problems. Btw years ago I did what you are now contemplating doing. I changed it to a gravity feed because I would forget to shut the pump off and the tank would overflow. I would set the pump up so that there is some kind of a warning to remind you to shut it off.

Also what year is your truck? Some newer trucks if you feed extra fuel to the tank directly the computer thinks its got a problem and will shutdown or at least go into a self preservation mode. I.e. my gm dmax will go into limp mode unless the computer knows how many gallons the tank holds.

Some of the external tanks I have seen have a tag saying not to connect permanently to a vehicle tank. Is there some sort of law against doing this?
