Beautiful. I agree that burning black walnut as firewood is a cryin' shame. Like burning money.

Well I have a big cherry log in my woods.. It was gonna be firewood too but I think it'll ride to the mill with the walnut! Should make some pretty boards. Wish the trees were still standing but this will be the next best thing! ;0)

Stock piled a few trees to keep the sawmill going when I get up the camp about once every three weeks this winter. The snow quickly gets too deep for my tractor.
Great looking set up! I have to say though, I don't understand the middle beam on the shed. It is not supported on the front side so what's the point? :confused3: Maybe you removed it for the picture? :D

Well it went for $2,250 plus 15%. Oh well, I had my hopes up for the day.

Yeah it's a shame to just burn it. I'm gonna see about milling it.

Old time sawmill guy here used to let the walnut logs lay out for 2 years, he said it let the color work it's way thru the wood.

If you pull down on the far side, it hinges the roof open so you can load logs from the top.

Every day I am impressed by elegant solutions the folks on this forum come up with and implement.

I noticed that extension off the back and wondered why it was there. Great idea, not sure it could be made to work, but interesting.

He didn't, there's no hinging and all the bracing is fixed.

Worth a shot. Keep looking, they do come up on craigslist from time to time. Maybe a wanted add in the relevant craigslists might help.
