This is kind of what I am working with at home. A good 50 trees on the ground and several dead still standing. This is just part of the property.

Tajfun make great winches, but none are immune to continued abuse so as long as you trust that one is in good condition, then I'd say go for it.

it does look good. Hypothetically if it is abused, are they repairable

Looking on craigslist there is a guy selling Tajfun winches new. The 45A he has for $4330, which the best price I've ever seen a new 4.5t Tajfun winch. Googling the phone number, it looks like a tree service operator in Maine (?)

Might pay to call the distributor and ask about spares, but there really isn't much that can go wrong on these, and they have to be fairly abused or old to be breaking drive chains or needing clutches replaced. Cable and chokers can be got anywhere.

The distributor:
OESCO, Inc.

Here's a pic of the log as I was milling boards off:

That's one fine log. I could not bring myself to burn that. I don't think I would leave it outside, either.

That winch does look like it's in pretty good shape. Never heard of that brand. Good luck in the auction (no, I'm not bidding lol)

S219, how did you mill that log? With a bandsaw or chainsaw?

Stock piled a few trees to keep the sawmill going when I get up the camp about once every three weeks this winter. The snow quickly gets too deep for my tractor.

Good looking setup! How much for a sawmill like that? I love your sawmill shed.
