The cross beam may not be necessary, but I'd prop a pole under the middle of the high beam against a monster heavy snow. Is that maybe a 18-20' span? Long way for any sawn beam.
Nice shed though. Good to be able to work in some weather, and keep it off the saw.

That crossbeam isn't doing much at all. I see a turnbuckle or something that looks like it is screwed or bolted in to help counter potential load but it sure doesn't look like a well engineered design. I suspect if the cantilever beam gets much load due to deflection of the front roof beam, the lag screws will pull out. Anyways, sorry but I can't help but to look at structural details like that.

I noticed that extension off the back and wondered why it was there. Great idea, not sure it could be made to work, but interesting.

He didn't, there's no hinging and all the bracing is fixed.

Then it must be there to hold that top link from his tractor in place.

My splitter built in 2009 This is with the 30 " cylinder. I have since then cut it down to a 24" cylinder. I stand upright all the time. No bending over if I can help it. Auto cycle valve. I have also made a 4 way wedge for it.

Nice saw oldtimer. One of the best in its class, me thinks. Although the air filter sucks (pun intended). Their HD air filter kit is well worth it (but throw the pre-filter that comes with it in the bin).
