Also will say being rude won't help you. I hope none of your local officials are TBN members!!

I guess we're lucky down here. I phone them, tell them my address, section number, etc (only had to do that the first time- then they gave me a customer number), and they give me a permit number. I guess I do a burn every 6-8 weeks or so.

These are the requirements to burn a brush pile of less than 20'x20' in Maine (assuming the fire danger level is low enough):

You must be 18 or older to purchase the burn permit
1 adult must be present
1 charged garden hose unless the ground is completely covered with snow
1 backpump OR five-gallon bucket
1 shovel or rake
pile must be 100 feet from structure
No burning shall be conducted between the hours of 9AM and 5PM unless there is a steady rainfall or when ground is completely covered with snow

We have on-line for fee burn permits:

Yep.

And you pulled the permit?, I imagine if you burn and have a visit, your going to be talking about something else in another post.

Break it up, do it their way and move along.

I posted the pics to actually SHOW the members here what the situation is...does anybody really think a huge burn is going to create any problems? Look at the buildings in the distance....part of the problem here is that I GET SUCH A LIMITED WINDOW TO BURN IN....MAYBE FOUR DAYS A YEAR AND TODAY WAS ONE OF THEM !!! If there is too much snow I cannot clear a path to the pile, if there is too little snow I don't have a means to put it out should situations require. IT HAS TO BE OUT BY DARK.....DUHHHHH !!!!! And the permits say NO WIND....I live on a hill and it's almost always windy as H*LL here....I studied and studied the weather forecasts for several days and TODAY would have been the perfect day to burn...and the morons could not take half an hour to come out and inspect my pile!!!! AND YOU KNOW WHAT???? Had I just lit it off this morning without ANY authorization it probably would have been fine....

SO WHY DO THEY PUT SO MANY STUPID RESTRICTIONS ON A BURN LIKE MINE??? MORONS !!!!! Try to follow the rules and accomodate things to be a good resident who pays 4 grand in property taxes a year and this is the kind of service you get? MORONS !!!!!!

I pay a lot closer to 8 thousand per year in property taxes, and frankly, this would be the last thing I would complain about.

I'm pretty sure you are right about a moron being involved though.

MY brother says I should just light it up the pile and let them deal with it their lousy attitude. Comments are welcome.

If someone calls it in will they extinguish it or let it burn?
Are there any fines involved?
Exactly what are you making the assumption on that THEY have a lousy attitude? Are there more communications involved you have not told us about?

In my area of Michigan I can obtain a permit anytime of the year in which conditions are safe. No building materials permitted.

I can plan ahead and if the conditions change and I end up not burning I can get one later.

As much fun as a large fire like that may be, it doesn't look safe. Hot embers can be carried a long distance. And as others have said, a large fire will create it's own winds.

You can't expect immediate response for a permit application.

You can stomp your feet and get mad but you are better off breaking that pile down and taking the table, door, lumber and other non - brush out of it. And create safe separation space between the piles

That's crazy talk.

Why so? The FD doesn't know the OP do they? He lights it up, someone calls it in, and more trouble starts. Why would anyone want that hassle?
