Yeah, Dave and Cody were worth watching. I didn't care for Dave's replacement much.
Les Stroud is the real deal though. Doing what he does and filming it all himself is about as real as reality gets.

His show is sometimes questionable. He was out in the middle of nowhere and needed to cross a lake. Poof just like magic he finds a abandon canoe. Gimme a break!! :confused2:

I was hoping there would be a new season of Cosmos - but as others have said not much money in educational shows.

Yes, completely scripted, staged utter B.S. Mick Dodge is just some homeless alcoholic they found on the streets, gave him a few bucks to run around in the woods acting like a fool. The most ludicrous episode of any reality show ever was about him "going into town" to buy a cheeseburger and chocolate milkshake.

I agree with you all, 99% of the "Alaskan X or Y" shows on Disc. just silly entertainment. In the end I have subtly negotiated a deal with my 5 year old girl - she watch a Gold Rush with me (cool tractors she says) then I have to watch My Littel Pony with her... (At first I wondered if I backed myself always getting the short end of the stick! We're talking My Little Pony?!?) However seeing her jump our tractor and dig it, as well, enjoy "girly things" is priceless! The show on Disc. I look forward to - Mythbusters!

Not to hijack this thread, but saw this on PBS a few months ago. It's about Dick Proenneke. He went into the Alaskan wilderness in the early 60's and built a log cabin by hand. He lived there by himself for almost 40 years until he was into his 80s. I found his story amazing. There are several stories about him on YouTube. Now he was a true adventurer. Enjoy.

A few summers ago we were on a trip and stopped at a hotel for the night. We were looking for something to watch on TV and came across show on PBS about a guy, maybe with a wife?, who was homesteading in Alaska. Absolutely amazing footage and story. It might have been this guy. The documentary was SOOOOOOO much better than the supposed reality shows that are not reality.
