As for the "wonky_connection"...I pasted the text and anyone familiar knows it is a formatting issue with the VB software that has a problem parsing a lot of pasted text with certain characters...namely apostrophes etc...

I was merely bustin' on you; your factoids are interesting. :thumbsup: Personally, I have little to no interest in software and it's constant glitches/bugz, etc. For that matter, I'm similarly disinterested in hardware, though I work with it more often, whether I want to or not.

Yeah, the laptop to tractor idea is just for humors sake, considering this IS a tractor site.

I am curious though if your ISP may be like so many other tech service companies that offer (exceptionally) low pricing for limited periods (to get your attention) before they raise their rates?...I hope they don't for you and like others have said...we should all be so fortunate...!

No, not really trendy like that. The rates have been much the same for a long time. DSL was offered at different tiers but failed to deliver to a lot of customers, like me due to antiquated copper wire, older switches, etc. IMHO, this is a way to make up for prior bad quality delivery of 'product'. I've spoken to the company owner on several occasions; we shared common interests both owning property in CT and VT. I shared my experience with Comcast down there, and strongly suggested bring DSL at competitive prices to what else was then available in VT; which at the time was not much. In order for phone companies to compete in this area they needed something other than cable, obviously to stay competitive. Now VTel is kickin' some cable azz big time. VTel is a very hands on personable company. They work hard in a rough environment, VT, to bring the best products and services. I'm happy with their approach to being the best in eastern US ISPs.
I wholly agree, we should all be so fortunate. So I suggest all interested folks tell your powers that be, you want a Bazillion bits/second too.
Gas lamps to electricity, trains, to automobiles and planes. Highest speed fiber optics to every home in America. It can be done.:thumbsup:

Sure. You stream "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" from provider X and it takes 2G of bandwidth. But from provider Y its 4G. 100% more bits. And you don't know how large it is before or after you stream it and you only find out when your monthly bill arrives 29 days later.

So maybe it's time for the various providers to state what any download will be using for total bandwidth in advance so one can choose who to use for downloading ****; I mean downloading research materials and G rated movies and such. For every problem there is a solution.

It would be neigh impossible to meter everything. Just looking on TBN some pages have ads, some pages don't. Some ads are large, some are small. Some threads have one reply, some have thousands. Its not possible to tell people how much data they will use before they use it. And no one likes getting to day 5 of a 30 day only to find they hit their limit and will now be throttled (see how many people enjoy satellite internet service.... not too many).

I now subscribe to xplornet.com at 25 MBPS..75 gigs per month, Using Netflix for first time to day Netflix Canada is 9 per month and the ISP is 59.95 Total 68.95

Before it was point five megs per second (sometimes) and too slow for streaming, So I had satellite that cost me 60 per month for basic programming, which was terrible. and another 50 for wireless internet from Shaw Total 110.

Oh Yeah! LOVING IT!

Why not do what cell phones do: show minutes used, show bits used. Netflix, for instance can't tell me in advance how many bits are in a particular flick? I'm not saying to tell one how many bits they're going to use daily, for instance, but when one goes to download some content heavy application/ movie, etc. there has to be a way to know in advance the bit content, just like is done now with file downloads.

People would have no way to estimate how much they're going to use in their monthly budget. And all of a sudden because they did some research on coyotes running amok in Chicago, they'll have to stop using the internet for the next 10 days until they can scrounge up enough money to get back on line. Its just not practical to charge people by the bits they use at home. They should get unlimited downloads at the speed they sign up for at one, set, monthly cost. If the ISP says you get 25M speed, you should get 25M speed all day, every day, anytime you want it. Someone should file a class action lawsuit against companies that charge you for X speed that you can never achieve it at home.
