material thickness ratings on welders

I forgot to mention that for a first pass, its the same as any good pulled pork BBQ....low and slow. I'd recommend dropping to a 3/32 6010 5P or 5p+ or a 6011 at about 65-70 amps...

MOST good ag teachers have good bit of training in welding...and young farmer programs can often offer seminars as part of their training. Or, in a state like GA where the lottery pays for education, you can go to school/college for free or subsidized rates. Local tech schools often fall into the category. The funds in GA pick up 100% of the tuition and fees and even pay some for the books, and most programs have night/evening classes.

Did I mention BBQ? Well, now I have to post up this...:licking: This is a recent grill I made to a customers specs. But before finishing, it had to be field tested.lol.

Its a salesmans idea, thats what it is,makes no sense to a welder. It sells machines to all these new home"welders",and really confuses them at the same time.
Welding is kinda like frosting a cake,you're done when you're done,one pass,two,or 20.

For some reason this thread reminds me of story a welding instructor told me about making tanks during WWII. He said that to weld the ``collar'' for the turret onto the hull, they would use a huge drag rod and weld it in one pass. I recall him saying the rod was one inch diameter, 6+feet long and ran at 1,000 Amps. It took two men to run it.

Years ago on the Hobart site a guy posted pictures of welding with rods like that. I think he worked in a steel mill.
