... 1.5F and clear as a bell @ 03:00 ...

No wonder it's down to 63F in the house.

Got hungry and knew I needed to check the stove so I came down. Got the stove just in the nick of time ... all that was left was coals.

Heading back up to the shop in a minute ... it's way warmer up there ...

Finished putting the B & S Intek 206 for the splitter back together a little bit ago, after cleaning the unit, particularly the carb and the fuel tank. Stuck some fresh gas in it ... started on the first pull ... :D

Of course that was in a warm shop ... but I threw some of that Seafoam Magical Mystery Juice in it, after I got it fired up ... just in case ...

Good morning all. 1C/34F, with a gusting north easterly wind.

Had an update on the new tractor yesterday.
Good news - Loader( an MX 30C+) has arrived and dealer is on with fitting. Bad news - no wheels.

It's on turf tyres at the moment and they need to be swapped out, which no one thought would be a problem.
Turns out the distributor has run out of wheels for 28" ag tyres and no prospect of them coming for at least another week.

Each night I go to sleep wondering just how good it will be to own a tractor with a nice warm cab.
I guess I will just have to wait a little longer to find out.

Winter Driving Tips from a Pro Trucker - Web Originals

nothing really new here, particularly for Northerners, but I'm sure I'm going to wish some of my neighbors had read this when we get our first two inch "blizzard".

RS, I'm a little worried about you. You are like a frontier farmer who has run out of wood for the winter and has to forage to survive. You bring in green wood, you bring in your neighbor's lawn furniture, whatever you can get your hands on.
Should we all chip in and send you a cord of delivered and stacked, fully dried and seasoned, hard as rock red oak?
Or will you continue to force your dear wife to endanger her fingernails on that sledge?
Stay tuned when the Cake drops a log on her toe.
And the worm turns...

How about a supplemental auger fed wood pellet stove?
I know. no fun. no bugs.
no mano a mano. Or...femmo a femmo? with the sledge?

It would be nice if there was an implement to go on the back of our tractors, like a chipper, but
instead one that makes wood pellets out of what we are grinding up.
someone invent that please.

if you are clearing snow, slow and steady and don't fall. Particularly you Larro.

15 now...should see 38 and sunny this afternoon.

Since the ground is frozen again, I'll make a couple of tractor runs this morning back in the woods to pick up logs I cut earlier Thursday. Ground has been too soft in spots to want to run the tractor.

Roy, hope you get some seat time today on your new tractor.

Rswvan if you are regularly getting the cramps may be a good time to make a trip to your Doctor! Could be caused from low potassium or poor circulation. If you add a banana a day to your diet it may help. In any event worth the trip. You have to many things going on to be slowed down.

more water, a banana a day and getting off statins made my debilitating leg cramps go away. So bad in the middle of the night I'd wake up in agony and have to jump in the shower on full hot water to get the muscles to relax.
Even if you have to get up and pee a few more times in the night, that extra water might help. Do you have a bottle of water you drink regularly while in the shop? Or do you get so focused on the task you forget....

drinking water really helps me lose weight too. Not sure why. Probably by feeling full and not putting something else in my mouth. Hope those cramps go away for you RS quickly.

Wngsprd has reminded me, good idea to go out while frozen, I'm at 27 and it's been cold and windy here.
Actually, I think I'll bundle up and head back to the woods. Need another hundred foot a day day....
tomorrow will be warmer though.
working hard outside near the freezing point actually feels good to me, sweat less. But how some of you guys go out in zero degree weather or sub zero just amazes me. Lots of clothes layers I guess, cover exposed skin. Frostbite is not fun.

I see a lot of cabbed tractors in pics of northern tbn'ers. For you guys who go out in the really bad weather with an open tractor, how do you keep warm?

Let's see electric socks, electric pants, uh, skip the underwear... ;)(too precious an area for equipment malfunction) electric shirt electric gloves, you could just plug into the dash. Or get those microwaveable wraps like I use on my neck but the big ones and a bunch of them. They aren't light though. 12VDC should be ok.
sending you all warm thoughts for sure.

I still had standing water here two days ago so that frosty top might be an illusion for my tractor. I'll drive around with something lighter and see what happens.

RS, I'm a little worried about you.
Really ?

That's funny ... I was thinking the same thing about you Drew ...

You are like a frontier farmer who has run out of wood for the winter and has to forage to survive. You bring in green wood, you bring in your neighbor's lawn furniture, whatever you can get your hands on.
Odd that you would say that ... after I just brought in my own "seasoned" wood yesterday afternoon ...

Should we all chip in and send you a cord of delivered and stacked, fully dried and seasoned, hard as rock red oak?
Nah ... I got wood all over the place ... just a matter of getting it ... cutting, hauling, splitting it ....

The 'Cake keeps asking about a (smaller) black locust that I had felled this fall, that she can see out the bedroom window ...

I think I've explained 2 or 3 times now that's not for the fire ...

You could send a little warmer weather ... helps in foraging deadwood if there's no snow on it.

Or will you continue to force your dear wife to endanger her fingernails on that sledge?
If she keeps turning on the (electric) oven first thing in the morning when she wakes up to "warm up", her fingernails will be the least of her worries ...

Without any fingers, nails would serve no purpose ...

Stay tuned when the Cake drops a log on her toe.
The 'Cake is vertically challenged ... it won't fall far enough to do much damage ...

And the worm turns...

How about a supplemental auger fed wood pellet stove?
I know. no fun. no bugs.
no mano a mano. Or...femmo a femmo? with the sledge?
Personally, I like the entire activity of heating with wood ...

But I'd like it more if I had been a little better prepared ... :D

It would be nice if there was an implement to go on the back of our tractors, like a chipper, but
instead one that makes wood pellets out of what we are grinding up.
someone invent that please.
I think there is actually a thread on it in the "Build-it-yourself" forum ... ;)

... if you are clearing snow, slow and steady and don't fall.
That's looking like the next challenge ... we're supposed get between and 12 inches with this next storm ... probably end up being 18 ...

Boxblade and the loader probably ain't gonna handle that.

I'm either gonna hafta get the rear remotes re-installed so I can rotate the chute on the blower ... or slap the hand crank back on which would be double work.

Particularly you Larro.
Word has it Larro is getting a plow for that American Flyer he's been sportin' recently ...

need to get up and pour another cup of coffee. 55° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 63° with chance of rain all day. Lots of rain yesterday. Sure put a damper on Super Bowl events. Hopefully rain will be scattered enough to allow events to continue.
Larro, it's time to get up.
Good Morning All

Sarge,

Rswvan if you are regularly getting the cramps may be a good time to make a trip to your Doctor! Could be caused from low potassium or poor circulation.
Poor circulation I do have ...

The 'Cake tries to keep me pumped up on her various supplements ... between the Stress-X Magnesium Powder, the Tri-Boron Plus tablets and the Combination Potassium, you would think I'd have it covered ... but I'll admit I'm not always the best at remembering to take them.

A few more of these leg cramp sessions like I had yesterday and that might change.

If you add a banana a day to your diet it may help.
Yeah ... and I do like bananas ... especially with peanut butter. :D

Just have to remember to do it ...

In any event worth the trip. You have to many things going on to be slowed down.
Yup ... you ain't kiddin' ...
