It enhanced Seat and Skoda quite a bit to be associated with Volkswagen. Seat had a poor brand image because it used to build Fiats under Italian management, and Skoda had a poor brand image from the Communist era because of the RWD, outdated undercarriage, even though their first Favorit front wheel drive car, developed before the VW era. was in its own segment, not a bad car at all and it sold reasonably well in the West.

getting a bit OT here, but when I passed my driving test the first Seats were just coming into the UK. The Ibiza with "system Porsche" written on doors. I understand Porsche may have consulted on the design of the engine mounts or something, and Seat milked it for every penny!
