It enhanced Seat and Skoda quite a bit to be associated with Volkswagen. Seat had a poor brand image because it used to build Fiats under Italian management, and Skoda had a poor brand image from the Communist era because of the RWD, outdated undercarriage, even though their first Favorit front wheel drive car, developed before the VW era. was in its own segment, not a bad car at all and it sold reasonably well in the West.

...And Renault... Especially 30 years ago they probably rotted away before taking shore on the UK isles...

getting a bit OT here, but when I passed my driving test the first Seats were just coming into the UK. The Ibiza with "system Porsche" written on doors. I understand Porsche may have consulted on the design of the engine mounts or something, and Seat milked it for every penny!

I can understand your attraction to the Raptor - I'd never say no to Fox shocks. Though I shudder to think what that truck would cost you to fuel, in your neighbourhood !

How many gallons is a Raptor fuel tank? I'll work it out....

When I filled up yesterday, petrol,and diesel are both as cheap as I've seen them in 10 years, so maybe how's the time to buy a ridiculous engine.

The article says heavy duty towing at light duty prices. Problem is there's 2wd F150s selling for 50k....

In our local "Cville" weekly free magazine, there was a 1983 240D with 224k miles on it in "pristine" condition. It's likely the one we sold just before buying our Jetta TDI in the fall of 2009.

I've seen pictures of a 240D converted to a pickup. That would be cool and could likely be done for less than the price of a new diesel pickup, none of which of like (Dodge 1500 or Chevy Colorado).

Ideas?

I think Diamondpilot means - If it weren't for Cummins, ... (luv'n that autocorrect..... )

I remember when Dodge started offering Cummins options, way back. That move breathed a huge amount of life into a tired truck line, and Dodge has been smart enough to stick with Cummins ever since.

Cummins has fantastic brand-strength here. Always have, but they also made it thru the post 2007 emissions era w/o many of the problems some other brands had.

I'm not inferring anything negative about Nissan's own diesels in other markets - I don't know anything about their modern ones, but the old ones we had in the Canadian market years ago were well liked.

This is a really smart move by Nissan, in several respects.

Cummins has a great brand, the products to back it up, and is USA made (AFAIK). AND, as this thread well details, there is virtually no competion for them here in this product sector - no pickups that I know of (that are not a full-size 3/4 or 1 ton); about the only other thing I can think of is the Grand Cherokee, that is selling here with a diesel option.

Was it a new SUV? Reason I'm asking is my uncle has a Suburban with a diesel. GM made them with a 6.2 and a 6.5 for quite a number of years.
