Good morning! 44˚ and the WBS is on again.
Drew here is the Craig's List photo of the table we bought. It has 7 leaves with it so it will double in size.
Thanks Don. And others. Pretty clear to me I have to look very hard in CraigsList before I buy anything new. If they say nonsmoking house, at least that should mean no burn marks right? Just have to ask a lot of questions before I drive anywhere and hope folks are reasonably honest. Challenge is you'll never know if the seat wobbles from poor design or loose bolts until one sits on it and squirm around a bit. Some chair seats sit lower than others. Some seatbacks have some degree of lumbar support and some look like they do but don't. The table is easy, it's the chairs that concern me due to my arthritis and bad back.
Plus they are at the end of a long room and it's where your eye goes looking into the LR and DR so it needs to look more than utilitarian. And this is a table primarily for adults, not kids, so something slightly higher would be ok. Having said all that, I have to go run my hands over it and sit down on the chairs. See how heavy or lightweight the chairs are. And what happens when you rock back on one even a little. The prices on Craigslist look to be half or one quarter of new cost and sometimes, the really good quality stuff pops up for low cost due to a move or divorce or something. Really want solid wood furniture and want it locally made if possible.
Don, I can see that table loaded down with food at Thanksgiving with all the leaves in and a crowd of Texans stuffed around it.
And I grew up with a JD B, electric start, rubber tires, hand clutch, love the pic. pucka pucka
