Good morning!!!!

Errr... in the 30's now, with some major cold air moving towards us over the next few days. Wind chill will be below zero by this weekend according to the weather people.

Tree guys are done. 3 days of work. Two bucket trucks and a chipper/shredder truck. Tha latter being most impressive as it looks to have mulched wood I would have kept for firewood! Need to get the smaller tractor into the yard now with the FEL to move some of the wood out of here. Need to go find a splitter too. Stump grinding is all that remains.

Damage to yard and buildings? Nothing except wood chips on the yard, a tire mark, and a gutter. Impressive. The company will get a nice note from me for sure.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Yesterday afternoon I took a call from a friend who had been called by a neighbour to say some footpath walkers had found a dead sheep by the rail bridge.

I grabbed a coat, fired up the fergie and put the transport box on the 3 point link, half hoping that it wasn't really dead.
If anything does pass away it is usually overnight and neither me nor dog had found anything in the morning. They are soon due to lamb and sometimes just roll over and can't get up again.
Thankfully fields are relatively dry at the moment - 2 wheel drive and slick front tyres are not a great combination on sloping ground.

Well I looked and looked and could see nothing by the bridge, nor down the entire length of the two fields by the railroad.
I doubled back and this time followed the footpath. Nothing. With a steel seat pan freezing my butt and the cold metal steering wheel (I'd forgotten gloves) I was about to give up when I saw a trail of wool in the hedgrerow.
I followed the trail and there at the end was the ewe, partially eaten by fox, in a dip by a wind blown blackthorn.

We can't burry fallen livestock anymore, thanks to yet another load of European rules.
Someone in their infinate wisdon has deemed that it is illegal to return a sheep to the ground where it has lived and died.
They say it is more "bio secure" for us to transport the animal miles over public roads to a collection centre where it is loaded onto a truck and driven to a distant rendering plant.
I very much doubt that is so.

Anyway, enough of my woes, I am starting to sound like a grumpy old man.
Tomorrow should be a much better day if all goes to plan.

Have a good day everyone.

2F and clouds moving in. Fifty Shades of White Ha Ha. As of this morning's forecast, we are getting 10"-20" of white Sat-Sun. I'll share if anyone feels left out. :D

TXDon, glad you finished your drainage and leak work. I bet your Dad appreciates it.

Eric, about this atom stuff, the Moon is thought to have been formed following a collision between earth and another Mercury-sized planet 4.5 billion years ago. Approximately 100 tons of space dust and meteorites fall on the Earth each day, some of which is the remains of forming the Moon.

I'm pretty sure the best part of me was once a pure Mote of Moon Dust that landed on the wing of a butterfly, from which it rubbed off on a clover blossom. Sometime in 1948 a pair of mammals were rolling in that clover and that mote of dust was inadvertently swallowed and joined with the fruit of their loins.

Yes, I could have been an alien turd, but I prefer the Immaculate Mote of Moon Dust theory.

25 this morning and not going up. Windchill is 12. Not supposed to get above 40 for next 10 days. I was hoping that dang rodent was wrong about his winter forecast. Looks like he may have been right.

Well it's inside work today. I'm not spending any more time out than I have to. My blood has already thinned for the spring warm up. Don't want it to go back.
