Blizzard 2015 Boston

Mike68, most people have been really great but there are definitely people who have had enough. I originally got a snow thrower for the city because it compresses the snow and squares off the banks. The snow at our place in NH is like feathers and I can blow it into the next county. The snow in Boston is usually much heavier and wind blown and I've gone from an old 5hp Ariens to an 1124 Pro (11.5hp) and a Honda track machine.

Boston is up to 79.5" for the season with 10-15" more forecast for the weekend.

Does anyone know if the city of Boston is using snowblowers to clean the streets? Everything I've seen is plows and not very big ones at that to move the snow. Here the cities blow the snow directly into semi trucks or dump trucks and haul it out to designated dumping areas.

I haven't seen any. Problem with doing that in an old city like Boston is that the roads are quite narrow, especially with cars parked on either side. That means there simply isn't room for a truck to be crawling along beside a big snowblower. Also, there are no front yards in the vast majority of Boston neighborhoods so the snowblowers cannot simply move snow into yards. I live in the northern suburbs and here they do use cabbed snowblowers (about the size of a skidsteer) to clear 4 feet of sidewalk by blowing the snow into the front yards. There are only a few neighborhoods in Boston where that would work.

One plow driver's take on doing his job in Boston. Warning: language not for delicate ears -

Got a kick out of that. He is definitely a townie from Boston. Sounds rather aggressive and nasty but it's all bluster. Based on knowing many of his type, he'd be happy to click glasses and tell tall tales about his plowing as soon as he gets some sleep. Most of these plow drivers don't sleep for about 48 hours after a storm which may explain a bit of his attitude. Then again, maybe he's just another Masshole.

That weather is a regular winter in these parts. We just do it and move on until the next one.
