Man charged with child abuse after driving kids in back hoe

I heard years ago that they had determined seatbelts more dangerous than not having them on a schoolbus. IIRC, kids would swing them and hit each other. Maybe it's not true, but it's what I heard.

I could see that. They are on all the buses in our school district though and the kids are supposed to use them.

The things I did when I was a kid came with potential hazards and common sense consequences. When you out law all of these (including sliding on ice at a school playground) there is no need to use much common sense. In other words color inside the shrinking lines and you wont have to think or use common sense. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

In Connecticut it is officially "Risk Of Injury to a Minor" I see that he was also charged with reckless driving and operating with a suspended license which shows he does have a problem behind the wheel.

That said I'm sure most of us who have grown up around tractors or construction equipment have all been given rides and survived to have them as good memory's. But if you have ever driven on the road with your tractor or loader you know it isn't the smooth ride you car has. How many of us had a load in our bucket that spilled as we were moving. I'm sure you have seen the impatient driver pass and cut off equipment going down the road. So all you have to do is place the child in a position where can be injured. I'm sure the press didn't put in all of the facts for the arrest, they usually don't.

I'm not in saying that the guy should get a pass. Come on, he's going to get put through the ringer for doing something stupid and it's going to cost him thousands of dollars. A ticket for a suspended license, force him to bring the BH up to street code in 14 days and a written warning not to transport the children in the bucket again. Now, with CPS involved, there's a chance he might lose his kids. You never get to know who calls but I wonder if it was a parent that doesn't immunize their kids? Maybe the arresting officer doesn't, prosecutor, probation officer, or the judge that might find him unfit.
I'd be willing to bet at least one of their kids (maybe grand kids) ARE endangering all the other children at school or wherever they go. Never ceases to amaze me, my kid can't bring a ppj to school but other parents can bring their kids to school or wherever without getting them the proper shots and potentially killing mine or theirs.

If the toddler in his lap decided to mimic dad and pull on levers he could dump the bucket and not a chance in h*** to stop before running over the 'pile'.

I see it often where one person's idea of safety is only what they read on the internet but I've got 'just a hunch' that fella had a reputation for doing other stupid things. I'll bet it was clear to those involved that that a warning would fall on deaf ears so they had to put some teeth in it.

If safety is paramount then we need to look at the leading causes of injury and death of children.

There are no guarantees in life. No one gets arrested in organized sports when someone gets hurt or dies.

if your children are immunized then I guess they are not at risk isn't that the theory? Just hope that the vaccine that was used is more effective than this years flu shot please don't get me wrong I am not against immunization my children were and my grand child will be, but there is plenty of evidence where autism is associated with the MMR Vaccination as well as others. I can say this because my family has been affected.

Not sure where you got this information, but it is far from correct. Many, many, many fire departments have mandatory seat belt policies.
